No surprise there then!

Guys and gals, please do give my pal Carla-Jean a follow. She is a brilliant historian of First World War photography and a wonderful human being.

I rather cryptically posted last month that my next project was inspired, in part, by the Magic Lantern Slide.
✨ Drum Roll ✨
Starting in February 2026, I’m starting a snail mail club called the Magic Lantern Mail Club.

Read on, or TL:DR - go follow me on the photo app!

Also Them: ’That’ll be £66 day return for your 1hr 10min journey’

Hey, guess what? Finding out that a huge number of wealthy and powerful men were happy to be friends with a convicted paedophile and prey on women, AND major institutions have been happy to cover it up is NOT NEWS TO WOMEN. It is the daily misogyny we face daily magnified.

#OTD 81 years ago, 3 Commando Brigade were locked in one of the most brutal battles of the Burma campaign - the Battle of Hill 170. Brigade 2IC Peter Young later wrote: ‘I’m convinced that no British troops ever fought better than ours on that day’

I try not look at reviews of Jungle Commandos because I am a perfectionist and I take any kind of criticism to heart (think ‘omg I’m a complete failure I’ve let everyone down’ at the smallest thing 🙃) but this was lovely to see and makes me feel really proud:

Despite the British Army being mechanised, there developed a pressing need to raise horse-transport companies in 1944-45 to ease the strain on motor transport. These companies were raised entirely from captured German horses who had been vetted by the RAVC. #WarHorseWednesday
