A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

Almost from the beginning, the Labour regime that created the welfare state with their violence in Kenya etc. And the "most progressive government of all time" under Harold Wilson was the one that encoded Enoch Powell's Rivers of Blood speech into law with their Commonwealth Immigrants Act 1968 💀
Labour are evil in terms of their foreign and international policy and they always have been.

The distance of time has allowed us to be more critical of their policy - but they’ve had horrid home office and foreign office ministers and policies every time they’ve been in govt.
This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities

In case Streeting hasn't realised, people usually have something better to do than fighting them on the beaches etc. Until some fucker forces their hand one way or another.

Those who draw their lines early are either worth respecting or asking for it: Streeting's telling us who he sees as which.

Adapted cycles & e-trikes also tend to be pricy. You can add dispensations for them but this adds complexity & cost without adding value. It may also mean disabled cyclists are put off - either because dispensations are poorly communicated or because of the added beaurocracy or perceived judgement.
Axing the cycle-to-work scheme might seem like low-hanging fruit for a cash-strapped Treasury, but it would be a big mistake. Particularly with expensive kid-carrying cargo e-bikes, it's one of the most effective modal shift levers out there.

Analyzing Hitler’s genetics to figure out what mental illnesses, neurodivergent disorders, or health problems he had is hitlerite behavior unironically.

Masking in hospitals - where people with infectious diseases and people who are particularly vulnerable to infectious diseases are both over-represented - is the absolute lowest of bars and yet we stubbornly refuse to clear it.
France: "Wearing a mask is once again mandatory in Paris hospitals"

"Faced with a rapid rise in respiratory infections, several hospitals in the Île-de-France region have decided to reinstate mandatory mask-wearing for healthcare workers, visitors, and patients over the age of 6."

We have to bail out private industry to save jobs but the NHS & HE - both of which are on their knees - could stand to lose a few thousand jobs.

It's easy to say "unnecessary beaurocracy" but my local NHS uses its limited resource inefficiently because cuts to admin means nothing works properly.

This was originally *sarcasm* & meant to convey that the act was impossible.

Vi har avdekket at forskerne fikk avslag på fritak fra taushetsplikten og fra å innhente samtykke til forskning fra pasientene - tre ganger.

De gjennomførte forskningsprosjektet likevel.

Interesting article which glosses over the rather critical fact that Mamdani won as the Democratic Party candidate, not as a usurper from a third party of the left. In terms of the UK his victory is surely more of an argument for righting the Labour ship than for trying to defeat it?

I think it's really worth remembering that for all the tub thumping about cracking down on asylum it has never been in the interest of nationalist politicians to reduce asylum by dealing with international human rights atrocities at their source.
Not only does the UK government waste vast sums of money on demonising those seeking asylum, now it appears that they are complicit in quite a number needing it in the first place. Choosing to save money over a genocide, again. #r4today
