It is crazy how much better Wired has gotten at political journalism than any of the traditional major outlets, you know we're living in the Cool Zone when Wired, Rolling Stone and Teen Vogue are the brightest lights left in American journalism while WaPo and the NYT are now basically state media
The FBI's Jeffrey Epstein Prison Video Had Nearly 3 Minutes Cut Out
Metadata from the “raw” Epstein prison video shows approximately 2 minutes and 53 seconds were removed from one of two stitched-together clips. The cut starts right at the “missing minute.”

a fantastic, succinct thread on the nasty work of laundering fringe, unpopular bigotry til people who value not being like That Bigot Over There could swallow it & the replies are full folks doing “no true scotsman.”

but transphobia undeniably flopped without the work of liberal institutions. 💯
There was an elite consensus against transphobia so strong Texas’ Republican Speaker of the House Joe Straus refused to pass a transphobic law, the public broadly agreed, and then a few elite liberals took it upon themselves to make transphobia popular and more or less succeeded.

There was a time for contemplative discussions of improving aid - and as someone who’s worked in aid, those discussions WERE happening in the sector - but now, after MAGA killed USAID?

14 million people are going to die and we don’t know how to save them.

We should be focusing on THAT problem.

It was cited 7 times in the ruling.

Don't let the minimizing fool you - the New York Times was cited SEVERAL times in the full Skirmetti decision, using its trans coverage to justify stripping healthcare from some of the most vulnerable kids in America.

Any claims they have to 'political neutrality' are void at this point.

This is a big deal.

Stephen Fry is difficult to dismiss as a fringe figure. He's as middle-of-the-road establishment as they come - with the politics and long silence on this issue to match.

JKR and her fan club won't just be able to shrug this off.

don’t tell us you love us and leave it at that.

get in the streets and protest. call your electeds. help trans people in your life access docs, legal help, medical care, make their rent.

do more, please.

As infuriating as the conservative SCOTUS is, never forget that America’s genocide against its trans population is the child of “moderate” liberal outlets like the Atlantic and the New York Times, and especially Jesse Singal and Katie Herzog, who made healthy careers out of polishing bigotry.
