It's Thanksgiving! Are you getting your eels ready? It's tradition!

The 1st Thanksgiving included a big table full of eels. And it's fitting. Tisquantum brought eels to the starving pilgrims that spring to celebrate their new treaty w/ the local Wampanoag tribe. 1/5

In a world filled with bad news, remember today that good happens unseen every day everywhere.

For instance, each Thanksgiving morning, this group of local families comes to the green in Hartford near our house to serve breakfast to the needy. No publicity. No hype. Just good.

Afghanis, Somalis-same thing. They both end in ‘I” right?
Asked what Afghanis in the US legally should be thinking, Trump talks about how Somalis are allegedly taking over Minnesota

It's easy to be numb because it's par for the course nowadays, but repeatedly calling a reporter who asks a reasonable question "stupid" is conduct unbecoming for a small-town mayor, let alone the President of the United States.

The press exists to play a watchdog role, not be a supplicant.
“You’re a stupid person” — Trump lashes out at a reporter who presses him on the fact that the suspected DC shooter was actually thoroughly vetted before he was let in the US from Afghanistan

I just feel awful for the National Guard troopers caught up in this. They’re just standing around looking bored all the time, but they have been made into a deliberate symbol by the Trump admin and that may have made them a target for this gunman.
BREAKING: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Trump administration would send hundreds of additional National Guard soldiers to the nation’s capital after two soldiers were shot in the city Wednesday.

There is talk going around that DHS is now arresting people who fly *domestically* if they have final orders of removal.

Undocumented youth should consider consulting a lawyer to find out what their record is -- especially those whose parents had prior interactions with immigration.

"Everything goes to plan for once" would be a good episode title for an episode where things do not go to plan
Your ship has been converted to transport low-gravity adapted humans to a sector-wide conference. Everything goes to plan for once, but on arrival you are ordered to re-convert for a patrol mission which would leave the delegates stranded.

If you want all writers to be rich dorks born rich who don’t need the money this is how you get all writers to be rich dorks born rich

If you want writers who were poor dorks born poor because maybe just maybe they have something different to say, this ain’t it
Using the belief that creators are the "petite bourgeoisie" to justify pirating books/stealing art is EXACTLY what makes it so hard for anyone who isn't rich to pursue their creative dreams

If you steal our art, you PERSONALLY are preventing us from building sustainable careers
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

Ahead of launching a war on Venezuela, the US would like to announce that no one in Venezuela should help US forces, it'd be stupid to do so, the US will denigrate you and screw you over no matter how much you help, and blame you if even one Venezuelan who also helped the US ever does something bad.

A *huge* vaccine victory. I've been writing on this for years; Australia has seen remarkable progress in cervical cancer prevention with the HPV vaccine. I love seeing science triumph like this.
Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

I saw a thread on here a while back explaining how pre-teens have started saying “That’s AI” when they don’t believe something, and I was stunned how many replies were celebrating this. “Hell yeah, the kids are discerning,” etc.

No! No that’s not what that means.
