The fact that people aren't letting you sign up for newsletters now without giving a phone number makes me want to throw up. Sorry Urban Decay, you don't know me like that.

He told people to eat his body and drink his blood
That's so cool
Jesus was so cool
But then some people got jealous of how cool he was
So they killed him
But then he rose from the dead
He rose from the dead, danced around
Then went up to heaven
I mean, that's so cool
Jesus was way cool

It would sure be nice if more of our species could evolve beyond “needing to literally have a bad thing happen to them personally before they’re capable of even *starting* to grasp that it’s also bad when it happens to other people”
MTG: “.. “I am now being contacted by private security firms with warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world. .. The man I supported and helped get elected.”

New Hybrid Pub Scout episode is out! I spoke with Rex at @ellipsus.com about what makes their writing program unique and about their principled stance on generative AI.

This has plunged me into existential crisis
Much has been said about how Halloween H20 shows them watching Scream 2, which mean Scream 1 exists, which means that the scene where they're watching the original Halloween in Scream 1 must exist, thus imploding the universe.

HANNIBAL: The killer considers himself a purist from a dying age. He seeks truth above all else -- above convenience, above comfort, even above clarity. Authenticity in all things is his crusade.

JACK: [staring at a victim with his guts strung out to spell "SUBS NOT DUBS"] I see.

Hey folks, since I'm getting my newsletter going on Ghost, I'm getting an order of magnitude fewer page views than I got when I was on Substack.

Could you do me a solid and repost/share my latest post to help me get those numbers back up?

I'd be grateful!

Something that bums me out is that AI being good enough for like 90% of practical translation use cases is that it will doom high quality literary translation. A really good literary translator is a good writer in two languages, it’s very much an art.
