Me: I stocked us up on Halloween candy.

Roomie: That’s good, as long as we don’t embezzle it.

Me: Well, um, this one bag “turns out to be” open somehow. I guess we’ll have to inspect every piece

Too often 'respectable' conservative christianity provides the framework for out and out christofascism to arise.

These articles are super helpful because I watched God & Country with my daughter a few days ago. I felt like the documentary was missing something but couldn’t put my finger on it (I’ve only read a few books on the topic). Chrissy Stroop’s expertise provided me with the insight I needed. 👍

Very interesting! Just thinking about Nia's construction of her own theology makes me think of Gordon Kaufman's work in trying to construct a naturalistic ecotheology that works pluralistically (along w the mid-20th century process theologians). Tell her to check out his work.

Whatever happened to bringing Bart Ehrman and shit to interviews for this? He's not even atheist, but the man's honest at least.

I personally don’t even think it’s ideology. The Dem establishment and its donors just do not understand the utility of media other than as a vehicle to make Dem consultants rich via shitty tv ads.

I'm not sharing it, go look it up for yourselves.this line really pissed me off "Journalists and scholars paid little attention to this movement until recently, when they realized that some of its members had rallied to President Trump " SMDH. Many of us were writing about this in Trumps 1st Term.

I have despised Molly Worthen for a long time. I haven’t read her latest (and probably won’t bother), but she’s always been more interested in whitewashing evangelicalism than criticizing it.

Even that language you quoted—“some of its members”—downplays the extent of the rot

There is no reason to imagine any funny, lovingly watercolored Seuss doodle as a manic polyester plush come to life or a plastic claymation action figure, by cgi. His style was his medium. Nuke intellectual property from orbit and start over with respect
This has been bothering me; plus I find live-action Grinches uncanny and don’t like them being all over advertising
gotta love how the *don't commodify xmas by dr seuss* book has become the golden goose of commodifying xmas

The cartoon was and is a thing of beauty and humor, narrated by Boris Karloff and with the best possible Grinch song.

All the live action remakers have brains full of spiders and termites in their smiles.

But not garlic in their souls. Garlic is much too good for them.

Hey, it’s been a while since we last checked in on all the AI “artists” who were all saying “it’s not stealing if you copy somebody else’s work, that’s just how all artists learn.” I wonder how things are going with them these days?
It's a whole genre it's beautiful

Looking for a seasonally-appropriate throwback read? Last year @thebugbeardispatch.bsky.social wrote about the Christian Christmas complex and the holiday blues.
The Most? Wonderful? Time? of the Year
The Christian Christmas industrial complex wants us to buy the illusion of unity while fascism prepares to enter the White House.
