I looked at the twenty-nine mentions of LOLITA in the Epstein emails released this week, and what they say about America today.

you should go out of your way to use your trans friends' names when you talk to them

they chose their names and they feel it in their chests when they hear or see it

we waited our whole lives to hear our real names and it doesn't get old

I’m making a list of arguments to deploy at gatherings from now until election time (and forever). This is a banger:

”There is no point growing the pie if the wealthy keep eating all of it.”

Thank you Sassy.

Good, play hard-ball. Elsevier should be dismantled and the journals and information turned over to public domain.
They've profited off of gate-keeping the tools of academia and research for FAR too long.

Excoriating 🧵 about NZ culture.
And look at that list of offenders and think of the punishments meted out. The masturbating cco director has his name suppressed and got a non-custodial sentence. The judge seemed to be more sorry for him than the victim.

Well done, Chris Penk. All for nothing. Without Australia there's no way a "touring act" like this would bother coming to New Zealand.

Fully support the universities in this. But if they are genuinely committed to ensuring "free public access to the research...taxes had funded" maybe those that limit access to electronic copies of theses to current staff or students could open them up to the public.

Universities in 'battle of the century' with journal publisher Elsevier
One New Zealand university told its staff all universities in New Zealand and Australia would "lose some degree of access" to the publisher's 1600 titles from the start of next year.

It bears remembering that this woman, according to the IPCA report, sent at least 36 emails to media outlets, presumaby including NZME, as well as the PM, Police Minister, and police command in Dec 2023 & Jan 2024, and they did fuck-all about it too

Coup. The word is coup.
There were 159,000 written submissions on the Regulatory Standards Bill (on top of over 23,000 submissions last year) - numbers that are second only to the Treaty Principles Bill in NZ’s history.

More than 98% of public submissions were opposed.

There’s a word for this, but it’s not democracy.

Honestly, the IPCA report into the police (mis)handling of the McSkimming case makes for jaw-dropping reading.

But it’s 135 pages long so I’ve read it for you.

Here’s my report on one of the most serious failures of integrity in modern policing history⬇️⬇️
The inside story of how police protected a senior cop, and prosecuted his accuser instead
For years, police leadership ignored warnings about Jevon McSkimming. The IPCA has set out the chain of failures.
