Where are they going to? 58% of migrant departures of New Zealand citizens went to Australia. Going to a country with Fair Pay Agreements, a growing economy, low energy prices, and a capital gains taxation system. For some reason that doesn’t seem to so be unpopular.

The Minister (a former police officer) and Police Cmsnr's refusal to admit systemic failures is simply a continuation of the culture of 'groupthink' and 'tolerance of unethical behaviour' identified in the IPCC report.

If the barrel keeps having rotten apples put in, or apples are turning rotten once inside, at what point do you accept there’s a system problem?

Why are rotten apples put in? Why are they going rotten once in?

And why aren’t (more) politicians asking this about police?

The problem for women in NZ has always been cis men & the lack of consequences for them if they commit SA/DV/abuse - especially men in positions of power at work or in sports.Their prospects, potential, promotions, reputations, businesses come 1st - it’s said out loud, it’s not even a secret. #nzpol
“The belief appears to be based on the proposition that Police are justified in not undertaking, or in curtailing, an investigation into a sexual assault allegation if it would jeopardise a suspect's work or promotion prospects “

A belief that’s entrenched in the police and in NZ. #nzpol
Inside a 'cover-up': The top cops, the 'quasi investigation' and the officers who stood up
"It doesn't take a rocket scientist… Jevon has tried to get rid of this by making a complaint," wrote one officer, "... this looks like a cover-up."

This IPCA report on McSkimming and enabler/s needs a major systemic review of police command staff and systems to result. How deep does the rot go?Is just making up breathalysers results by lower level police a downstream reflection of the culture? New Zealand needs answers, not soundbites.

Disappointed to hear the new Police Commissioner say on RNZ this morning that it was a failure of leadership and not systematic. Those 'leaders' were created by the system. Women needed to hear recognition that it could be systematic and a determination to investigate and deal with that.

Over decades central govt has encouraged a stack of development in inappropriate areas and directed councils to enable it through the RMA etc and councils have acquiesced. To now leave home owners to fend for themselves is unconscionable.

👉 And for all those who say 'but China'... let's just dwell on the fact that the West has outsourced a sh*tload of our production and emissions there, and we can't turn a blind eye to that 👈

Thanks to Susan at @christchurchlib.bsky.social for the 1 on 1 creative session this morning. We tried laser etching denim, but decided the best Scrabble board for tramping is this vinyl heat transfer. Looking forward to using it on the Routeburn in December 😀

JUST IN: New data for 2023 shows California continues to slash greenhouse gas emissions.

Since 2000, we've...
📉 Cut emissions by 21%
📈 Grown our economy by 81%

As Trump gives Big Oil donors free rein to destroy our planet, California continues to lead the way into the future.
