It's that time of year when it's hard enough remembering what day it is, let alone whether you're supposed to be back at work yet.

Here's our very scenic solution to this very real problem!

We have a just a handful of calendars left; they're now $25 + shipping.

Speaking of updates, did you know that we also have a Felt shop?

So far we've listed the calendars and some of Ryan's prints there, but over time Elisabeth will get herself sorted and add some of hers too.

I officially checked off first swim of the season this morning.

As I waded into the lake, I spotted a pūteketeke resting on the pontoon, so I was taking it very slowly.

There was a family picnicking on the shore, and a young voice piped up “She’s not moving!”

Bird and Beach are officially closed for the holidays!

We have left a few calendars and some of Ryan's prints up on Felt, and will be able to send those out next week, but any orders from our own website will not be processed until next year.

After a long day battling InDesign and my printer, all the tea towels are neatly pressed snuggled up in their packaging, ready to send out to their new homes.

Am I allowed to be just a little bit pleased with how well they’ve come out after all that work?

Thought you’d missed out on tea towels for the holidays?

Fear not! All the pre-orders have been stitched up and inspected, so the contingency spares are now available to purchase, and we raided our market stock for you too.

Limited stock, don’t miss out again!

Elisabeth has been busy in the workroom today, and all but one of the pre-orders have been stitched up.

If you’re starting to regret missing out on the pre-orders, we’ve got your back: we ordered a few extras, in case of misprints.

Once the pre-orders are all stitched, the spares will go online!

Time for the reveal!

How many tea towels did I get stitched this evening?

Tea towel sewing o’clock update (it’s dinner time).

This is what I’ve cut out, and what’s still to cut. Not all that get cut will get sewn tonight.

The fun thing about having a new workroom is that not everything has found its place yet.

Like my stash of bobbins filled with the colours of thread I use all the time... luckily I have located the second tier stash of bobbins (still perfectly good thread, just not the right colours).

The sewing starts now… and here’s a peek at my new workroom!

Shout outs are to Finlay Building Ltd (my nephew Tim), Illuminex (electricians) and Next State Print, who do such a lovely job of bespoke printing my - I mean OUR - designs!

Actually, let’s make this interesting!

Who wants to win a tea towel? Quote post with your guess before 11 pm. Closest wins. If more than one person has the closest guess, names go in a hat.

Prize value: NZ$35
Can be sent to an address in Aotearoa or Australia (you may enter from elsewhere.)

Guess what Elisabeth is up to this afternoon?
December 2, 2025 at 12:18 AM
If some of our designs look familiar to you, it's because Elisabeth has been making and selling her work for years as @thesewphist.bsky.social.
Not all her legacy products will be coming across to Bird and Beach, but they are still available at thesewphist.com. Even better, there's a sale this week!
December 1, 2025 at 6:13 AM
Quick update for those waiting for tea towel preorders: the fabric is in the country! All going well I'll have them sewn up and out the door by the end of this week.

Quick question before I go back to getting my workroom in shape so I can start printing these ready for listing these on @birdandbeach.bsky.social

If you were considering buying floral coasters from me, would you want:
• individuals / mix and match sets
• sets of four the same in a presentation box
November 30, 2025 at 4:40 AM
Have we told you that Elisabeth likes drawing birds?

This is the first known work in her #NZNatives series, darling from the early 80s.

Ryan likes to call Oyster Catchers “Traffic Cone birds” when he spots them at the beach.

(We’re moving into the new workroom, and found some old portfolios.)
