Today was a good day. I saw a lot of tuatara and damselflies, some female hihi (they look like a black and white photo of a male, which I'd seen several times before), a few korimako, the usual tūī, pīwakawaka etc, AND a riroriro and pīpīwharauroa interacting with each other.
Also: quail chicks!

The stained glass hemisphere light fixture is done and installed!

The tiles were cut on a waterjet and assembled using a printed jig which held a wedge 3 tiles (45 degrees) wide at a time. I'm hoping I can get the build video out before the end of the month.

I started this months ago, but put it aside for Christmas crafting. Then I wasn’t well enough to finish the Christmas crafts before Christmas, so it feels like forever since I got up the end of a project. It’s a fair step up in complexity from anything else I’ve embroidered so I’m mostly pleased

Just spent 2 hours clearing out the workbench drawers so I could take them out and remove the handles before giving them their next coat of paint.

2 hours 😩

I’m doing an AMA on Reddit (r/bookclub Kurangaituku) on Tuesday 27 Jan 10am NZ time (26 Jan 9pm GMT, 4pm EST) So if you have some questions about Kurangaituku, or what my current favourite cheese is head on over there.
Here’s me mugshot with the info.

And another one. This one hit hard enough to shake the house.
Apparently it’s getting startled by kererū flying into your windows with force season again.

I can see the latest victim, who has made it safely into the branches of our kōwhai tree. It’s a bit hard to tell if they’re at all stunned by the experience.

There is more painting to be done, and I am trying to summon up the energy/will to do it.

Bubble Bobble/Bust-a-Move.
I actually am curious to know what people think are the earliest video games that have a serious claim to being the best in their genre. Not like “good for the time,” but like genuinely better than anything else out there.

Paint o’clock.

The big stuff has all been done for me (to protect me from myself) so now it’s trims and feature pops.

Is anyone using Qobuz? It doesn't seem to do the shared playlists, but it does allow you to purchase music (as a standalone purchase, with or without a sub). It's $1-2 cheaper month than the other main streaming subscriptions in Aotearoa, but artists' payouts are twice as much (or more).
Things that are important to me:

• Musicians are paid fairly
• No AI-generated content
• Easy to curate and share playlists
• Lots of AoNZ and international content (not just English, I listen to a lot of French music too, and am open to others)
• Broad range of genres from Classical to Indie Pop.

What’s the recommended option for music these days?

I’m playing CDs more, but my collection more or less stopped around 2005, because I was buying digital downloads, and of course streaming for the last 10-15 years.

Mostly I like to just pick a suggested genre playlist and let it do its thing.

@foxylustygrover.bsky.social R is out so I decided to be my own friend tonight.
Summer main: Camembert stuffed chicken breasts (crumbed) with berry coulis, roast new potatoes, and courgettes tossed in lemon butter.

Winter: individual potato gratin; steak with mushroom, peppercorn and blue cheese sauce*; orange-glazed carrots tossed with broccoli and toasted slivered almonds.

More people please reply to this. I want to read all your fancy menus.

Cashed in my birthday working bee voucher today, and my friends came over and painted the walls of my workroom for me. There was even one friend on “keep Elisabeth out of the way” duty to make sure I didn’t get stuck in and overdo it with my bung arm/hand.

Every time I prep for painting, I remember just how much I love sugar soap.

This is 18+ years of wall that was previously a sectioned off room that was for storage, but is now part of my workroom.

When we rented, I used to clean walls semi-regularly. Warm, dry house means I don’t have to now.

Pi means I have a problem.

My problem is I only noticed after I’d already rolled the lampshade.

I’m working on making the problem go away. But there will be no more lampshade making this evening.
