This is precisely the intention of vouchers. They are an elaborate plot to destroy the public education system, which is part of a larger plot to enslave the American population
Arizona, the model for voucher programs across the country, spent so much money paying private schoolers’ tuition that it faced hundreds of millions in budget cuts to critical state programs and projects last year.

School Vouchers Were Supposed to Save Taxpayer Money. Instead They Blew a Massive Hole in Arizona’s Budget.

Absolutely staggering to consider the deadweight loss that AI has caused educators in terms of burdening them by making cheating easier, and how little our society's elites care
Across the country, a small but growing number of educators are experimenting with oral exams to circumvent the temptations presented by powerful artificial intelligence platforms such as ChatGPT.
To AI-proof exams, professors turn to the oldest technique of all

imo a lot of it comes down to leadership and donors basically treating environmental stuff as "freeze stuff as they are" instead of "how do we build a post-carbon world" from what i've heard from friends in enviro orgs
This aligns with my experience talking to a lot of staff at environmental organizations who understand the necessity for land use and permitting reform but can't bring along senior leadership or donors. bsky.app/profile/robi...
Interesting to see @meganwachspress.bsky.social observe that the Sierra Club’s staff were clear-eyed about the need for clean energy development while the *members/small-dollar donor base* were more resistant to it.

Throwing away all your political capital after a historic off year election for a 1 year continuation of ACA funding is absolutely pathetic.
SCHUMER is on the floor now making this offer to end the shutdown:

Clean CR
Bipartisan "minibus" of approps bills
1-year ACA funding extension
Bipartisan cmte to negotiate on health care

"This is a reasonable offer that reopens the government, deals with health care affordability."

heads up to anyone who holds trans kids near: amy harmon from the nyt is searching for and having a hard time finding people to interview to find out exactly what trans kids are doing when their care is limited or cut off, and for purposes of community safety, please shut the fuck up around her.

People think they like conflict until they can’t get a moment’s peace and they realize they like instigating conflict on weaker people, not being on the receiving end.
Gotten a lot of comments/quotes like "they don't care, they *like* conflict!" or "they're psychos, they don't care!" The thing is: pretty sure virtually NOBODY, even the worst people in the world, can handle constant verbal conflict where they're the target. That's the point.
A lot of folks may think that just yelling at ICE agents is ineffective, but consider the cumulative psychological toll of being yelled at EVERY DAY when trying to do shit. Even the biggest asshole in the world who doesn't give a shit about other people will feel the pressure.

Funniest direction to reach a pro-universal healthcare position from lmao
Marvel is leaving Atlanta and heading to the UK, citing rising costs.

Labor costs are less expensive in the U.K., and universal health care means studios wouldn’t have to subsidize workers’ medical expenses.

This move alone could cost Atlanta up to 20,000 jobs.
