I used to see this a lot when out canvassing. Most people (especially when canvassed outside of election season) don't bring up issues. Their problems, if they bring them up, are basic services stuff - not policy.
This isn't about left or right, it's about the larger parties being captured by the (false) idea that rural Ireland is something that it's not.

And fox hunting is only one of many issues where the view of "rural Ireland" is actually just a small group that's very vocal.

Code Yikes!

Not only was yesterday's Arctic sea-ice extent a record low for the day, yesterday's extent beat every year prior to 2024 by over half a million square kilometers.

The Arctic currently has a streak of 21 straight days of record low sea-ice extent.

Sinn Féin are not making moves consistent with a party that's planning to lead a government without FFG. They're behaving like a party that's eyeing up a coalition with an increasingly right-wing Fianna Fáil. Gerard Cunningham got it right when he said they're FF 2.0.

Scandalously the Dáil has just voted 73-71 to continue to force many women to travel abroad for abortions by refusing to reinstate Bríd Smith's Bill to scrap the three day waiting period.

The vast majority of FF and FG TDs voted against women's right to choose. Shame on them.

Pretty damn sure that at least 90%of people who want peace and justice in Palestine are equally passionate about preventing antisemitism. Its not either/or. It is always "Never Again". For anyone.
Its about wanting people to be able to live in peace . Lifes short enough as it is.

Want to see billionaire brainwashing in action?

Seven out of ten Brits are big fans of renewable energy and want to see lots more of it.

But they think the majority of people DON’T support it.

That disconnect isn’t an accident. 🧵

Our GDP is $113,135 per capita, and yet there are over 20,000 homeless.

Average house prices are 8 times the average income, making it impossible for most Irish people to afford a mortgage.

The gap between the haves and the have-nots is now a chasm, and that's the real threat to social cohesion.

We will have about 13,000 in 2025. About half will be allowed stay. I don't think 6,500 extra people in a population of 5 million is a threat to "social cohesion". Not being able to afford a home or to see a doctor or not having to wait 3 years for my kid's needs to be assessed is.

Once again, if you believe that FF&FG would only love to give us a well-resourced, world beating welfare state but it’s just those pesky immigrants won’t let them, you are a gobshite. You have a loyalty card with your local bridge salesman. You were, in fact, born yesterday.

1. This short thread is about what I see as a serious breach of journalistic ethics, in the making of Sofia Pineda Ochoa’s online documentary Greenwashed. She interviewed me for the film, but neither before, during or after was I given any idea I would be its target. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjWU...

I don’t use social media to argue about politics with strangers.

I use social media to talk to people about fish.

When I talk about fish on Bluesky, people ask me questions about fish.

When I talk about fish on Twitter, people threaten to murder my family because we’re Jewish.
"Bluesky is an echo chamber."
"Bluesky doesn't have enough reach"
"Liberals must return to X to challenge the far right"

I'm not a tech bro or a journalist. Your priorities are not my priorities. Stop telling me I need to do anything other than chat about comics & telly with people who seem nice.

Intentionally killing innocent people is always wrong.

Wherever in the world it happens.

You might think everyone agrees with this simple moral principle, and yet far too many people, on far too many different sections of the political spectrum, try and make exceptions to it.

They want us to turn on each other so we don't look up and see where all the wealth and power have gone.

Don't fall for it.

“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.”

Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life.

Common sense.

Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.
Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.

I don't understand how any adult, let alone a politician who's job it is to make decisions for the benefit of the 5m people in the country, can decide it's grand to poison the water so 130k farms can make more money.

What's the point of any of it if you decide poisoning the water is ok 😞

Nitrates derogations are a risky business model for agri-industry. EU Commission seems to be indicating that the new three-year derogation is on borrowed time.

New Ireland Thinks poll shows public want clean, healthy water, and majority not in favour of Ireland seeking another derogation.
