'The Government doesn't have a monopoly on the common good. Just look at the state of the Irish environment, the housing, energy, water & climate crises ... Oversight by the courts of Government and public-authority decision-making has never been more important'

Judicial reviews serve the common good
Rather than castigating public-spirited ordinary people concerned by planning problems, the Government should focus on properly resourcing the planning and legal systems

Tackling the carbon emissions of bottom trawling is a fast and effective way to forestall climate change while protecting our precious marine ecosystems. But despite the minimal returns, governments across Europe keep subsidising the practice

"Will the Government use its financial & political capital now to secure a cleaner, cheaper, fairer future, or will it keep betting that Europe won’t enforce its own climate law? If it’s the latter, then we’ll not only have lost time and money but also the opportunity to build a sustainable country"

Yet today, national governments took aim at the #2040Target, choosing short-term political convenience over scientific integrity, environmental safety, and societal responsibility👎

Urban wastewater treatment is the 4th greatest pressure on Irish water quality. Some of that could be fixed by infrastructure, but almost half of the pollution is due to poor operational management.

The solution is not less environmental scrutiny.

Happy Halloween/Oíche Shamhna
Halloween marks the eve of Samhain on November 1st.
Traditionally, the barrier between the 'Otherworld' of the dead & world of the living is at its most transparent. People often carved turnips into frightening lanterns to carry with them or display on windowsills.
