As we step into a new year, how about taking some important time to enjoy the astonishing gifts of our shared natural world. It's always a good idea to give yourself some space to experience the comfort, calm and peace nature always generously provides.

It may seem like a dry topic but it's worth watching this briefing on government attempts to make it very expensive to enforce environmental law

If we're to turn the tide on nature loss, we're going to need a government that treats it with the level of priority that was given to holding on to the nitrates derogation

Celebrating the Solstice, known in Irish as An Grianstad (sun stop).

Peak Solstice this year is on 21 December when we will have our longest night.

The days will lengthen from now on, towards the renewals of Spring.

It's just over 3 weeks since Ireland was found in breach by the ECJ for failing to protect waterbodies from physical damage. The government response? Lower the legal bar for these waterbodies, so the damage can continue, with insufficient justification.

Our waterways are not in safe hands.
Despite nearly 1000 of you making submissions to halt the weakening of environmental standards for 1 in 10 of our rivers and lakes the govt signed off on it! 😥

This, without the evidence that such a drastic move was either necessary or justified. It is unacceptable.

Weakening of protections for a tenth of our rivers and lakes is just unacceptable - Sustainable Water Network

It's worth cataloguing what has happened in the water world in the last few weeks alone.

It paints a picture of a Government who are not at all prioritising the health of our waterways, and who are failing on multiple fronts to put in place the measures we actually need.

A watery rant 🧵

Please consider adding your voice to this important campaign. The EU is currently considering a weakening of existing legislation around pesticides.
🚨 Toxic pesticides are poisoning our soils, water, and biodiversity. Now the EU wants to weaken rules.
Last week, the EU Commission published the environment omnibus + the grids package. This “simplification omnibus” is a dangerous shift.
