Three months ago I bought an old Superman comic and found an oddly familiar looking space telescope inside. Today, I've just had an article about it published by Scientific American!

How Superman Helped Launch the Hubble Space Telescope
Long before it orbited Earth, the Hubble Space Telescope starred in a famous Superman comic

Leonard Nimoy once recorded the most plodding, lifeless, and dull cover of Proud Mary you will ever hear in your life.

Would love to know what specific steps Baroness Anderson and other members of our government have taken on X to provide a counter-narrative to the Nazis and the pornographic AI images of children and non-consenting adults.
Cabinet Office Minister Baroness Anderson tells the Lords the Government will keep on using X.

"I still believe that X is an appropriate platform to use because I believe in freedom of speech..."

"It is incredibly important that there is a counter narrative on those platforms," she says.

It's become quite fashionable now to take "Stan Lee exaggerated his contribution to Marvel superheroes" & extend it to "Stan Lee contributed very little/nothing." But you only have to look at Steve Ditko's vision for Spider-Man to see a great example of how much Stan brought to these characters.
Jim Shooter’s blog post reinforces a lot about what we know about Steve Ditko’s views on flawed heroes and Spider-Man.

Just realised that this year I turn the age that lady was when she put that cat in a bin.

Finally got around to watching the last two episodes of Strange New Worlds after being put off by some very duff episodes. I'm really glad I came back to it, those last two episodes were really good.
I gotta say I'm finding it a bit exhausting how this series of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is alternating from episode to episode between engaging space adventures with characters that I want to hang out with all the time and the worst sitcom I've ever seen in my life.

People always point out the creepy "older man dates younger girl" thing in Woody Allen films. But for me the creepiest bit is how the older man always takes on the mentor role in the relationship, "educating" his young lover on books, music, & film...

When a character wakes up in the arms of their partner after what has presumably been a night of lovemaking, pulls on their trousers, and immediately goes to their job or whatever. Ychafi!
#FilmSky, a quick question; what is the pettiest thing you have had to be annoyed at a film? I ask because I am watching The Gift from 2000, and the main character does divination with Zener Cards, which are not the same thing as Tarot at all. Why go for a more boring looking option?

Watching Hudson Hawk and Fred Elliott has just turned up, I say Fred Elliott has just turned up!

Trump is a greedy, spiteful, racist, pedophilic, woman-hater. He was handed power TWICE because enough people thought they'd benefit from a leader with one or more of those qualities. Anyone who has ever well-actually'd themselves into refuting this very obvious truth should be viewed with suspicion

I'm pretty sure it was @madeley.bsky.social who first noticed the similarities between Keir Starmer and the Mayor of Gotham City in Dark Knight Returns.

Mostly silly films again in 2025 I'm afraid, although I wish I my diary milestones had been slightly less silly.

Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis #40.

20 years ago, @kurtbusiek.bsky.social & Jackson Guice introduced us to a new Aquaman. I loved Arthur Joseph & I really wish he'd stuck around.

Absolutely beggars belief that we've all seen the Horizon scandal and its horrifying consequence play out, yet people are going to smugly sneer their way into handing something that has exponentially more potential for abuse to the lowest bidder amongst the government's cronies.

Love seeing sarcastic takes about how it's foolish to be vehemently against the British state forcing us to carry ID papers around, at obscene expense to the tax payer for no benefit except to create the potential for an enormous breach of confidential data. Aye, it's me who's the fool alright.

A thread of some cool comics that I own that are having some sort of anniversary in 2026. 🧵

First up, Adventure Comics #346. It's 60 years since 14 year old Jim Shooter began writing comics, creating three of the most iconic members of the Legion of Superheroes with his first issue.

"Enkidu, whom I love deeply, who with me went through every danger. He went to the destiny of mankind, and I wept over him day and night. After he was gone I did not find life, as I wandered through the wilderness."
A common assumption is that throughout history, people have experienced the same basic range of emotions. A radical field of history now challenges this assumption, Gal Beckerman reports. theatln.tc/KD2QRX9Y

At the end of each year I write a blogpost listing some stuff I've done over the past 12 months that made me happy or pleased with myself. I do this to help stave off the usual dread that comes with everything being another year older, so I hope you'll forgive me some blowing of my own trumpet.
Paul's 2025

Fascinating thread but I don't feel it's that complicated? This is what happens when you go out of your way to performatively kick your own coalition in the hope of impressing voters who never liked you to start with.
Glad the FT is asking the question. Even if I’m not convinced they found a compelling answer.
I get that Starmer & Reeves are unpopular, I really don’t understand the extent of the dislike.
