If there isn't a #ThankYouMichaelD hashtag, then there should be. Thanks for 14 years of the kind of leadership the rest of the world is crying out for.

Michael D Higgins, with his wife Sabina, has left Áras an Úachtaráin for the final time as president.

He was given a guard of honour by members of the Sanctuary Runners, a charity of which he is patron.

The President’s term of office ends at midnight.

An amazing day in 2017 when I got to meet Uachtarán na hÉireann.

I'm sad that Michael D's term is up. He stood for peace, friendship, & was a shining light.

The say don't meet your heroes, but on that day I did & he was lovely.

Two weeks ago Micheál Martin said, Ireland can't address climate change because it will polarise the community.

In 2025 Irish taxpayers pay €18 billion in fines for not meeting targets.

Then Martin's at COP telling the world they need to unite and act now.

Total hypocrite.

I knew those reports that Micheál Martin was blaming the Europe for housing woes sounded familiar.

Anyway, back in May 2023 I sent an AEI request to the EU Commission for "copies of communications ... regarding public housing and the regulation of short-lets ..."

Housing, Europe and AirBnB – 200 Words
A while back, Irish and other news outlets reported that Irish efforts to tackle the housing crisis by restricting short-lets such as AIrBnB ran into an EU roadblock.

Last year, Israel's parliament voted to ban UNRWA and since it came into effect in January, the legislation has thrown up new obstacles to the entry of food and other aid into Gaza.

Anytime you hear politicians talking about "Mickey-mouse degrees" or that universities should only teach people skills for the workforce, this is absolutely why.
Mamdani got a humanities degree.

His win helps to illustrate that one of the central forces driving higher ed’s dissolution of the humanities is the fear that teaching people how power works can also lead to their interest in seizing it on behalf of the less powerful.

I've started watching Death by Lightning (from @josefoshea.bsky.social's recommendation on the last word) & it's very good.

It looks great as a period show, has lots of heavy hitting actors, but most importantly, it's got #beardgoals for days!

I'm disappointed my new beard show has only 4 eps.

Have a #painting why don't you. "Bantry Brendan" was painted because I like sitting in the west Cork town eating a sandwich as I look up at the sculpture, by Imogen and Ian Stuart, of Brendan the Navigator looking out to the Atlantic - or Bantry Bay at least. #SpeirGhorm #ArtYear

I try to explain all of this AI thing in one article, and suggest why it is hostile to democracy, to humanity and also happily likely to end with the would-be tech Sun Kings taking trips to the financial guillotine.

We could be a wind power behemoth & he wants to tie us to US fracked gas. That's not security.
