This is a HUGE deal, and already in play in Alabama.

But the comments on this post will show you the absolute room temperature IQ of the average person when it comes to these issues. Just all of the worst takes represented over and again. Just real smooth brain shit under Mike’s commentary.
Just so we're clear, they're proposing a tax on speech.

It's incredible that neither the president nor VP was here. The politicization of all facets of American life is coming from the White House. No other American president would have failed to pay their respects. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/...

We are racing towards the gas chambers, folks. Don’t ever abstain from voting ever again, if you get the chance to do so in the future. Both sides are not equally bad. Kamala would not be building fucking extermination camps and pulling constitutional protections left and right.

Spot on. This is the clearest explanation I’ve seen. It ‘s relatable, and humanizes the issue in a way everyone can understand.

I listened to the live oral arguments a couple months ago, & I have to say (sadly) I am not surprised one bit. SCOTUS does not the internet nor the threat to personal information. Then again, they also sat idly by while DOGE put infrastructure in place to scrape it all from government databases.
The Court effectively says that because ID checks in brick and mortar stores are acceptable, they are just as acceptable in the online environment.

[this ignores every technical and practical difference between local offline stores and global websites]

Kinda fucked up that letting unelectable partisan hacks have lifetime appointments and brazenly take bribes from billionaire perverts isn’t working out better

UM.. i am gonna go with 'they do...' based on the overwhelming slant of the rulings today.
OK, I've read the injunction opinions once. I'll read them again and think about them some more. For now:

This Court either doesn't think they're staring down fascism, or they do. At this point, I'm not sure what would be worse. Because either way they are making law that helps fascists.

The TAKE IT DOWN Act’s Good Intentions Don’t Make Up for Its Bad Policy
Congress just approved a new online censorship scheme under the auspices of thwarting revenge porn and AI-generated "nonconsensual intimate visual depictions."

Just leaving this here. Anyone remember Hillary’s email “scandal”…
Hi, I'm the guy who used to oversee the federal government's agency IT telecommunications contracts. This is extremely bad. There is absolutely no need for this. Not only is it a huge security exposure, but the simplest explanation for this is that it is meant to be a security exposure.

This is my favorite picture of Stonewall.

They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+.

Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them.

I think about it a lot in moments like this.

This is way more detailed and specific than these bills usually are and it's chilling to me. Just waiting for Dusty Deevers (what's with the porn name?) to get busted for some heinous shit, because the ones who push hardest have the most to hide.
Oklahoma Senator Dusty Deevers has just introduced SB593, a bill that would criminalize p**rnography in the state of Oklahoma, establishing a 10 year prison term for anyone who makes, distributes or even possesses adult content.

FELLOW TRAVELERS on showtime does a great job portraying what this situation is like. And it’s NOT fun for anyone.
In 1953, Eisenhower signed an order banning queer people from working in the government. Agencies
encouraged employees to report colleagues they suspected of being queer based on how they acted, spoke, dressed, or had masculine/feminine characteristics like wide jaws in women or small hands in men
“One administration employee who received the email urging employees to report their colleagues said it made them feel as though they were being recruited into the Gestapo. Another employee told The Times that the directive to report colleagues made him feel as if he was living in the Soviet Union.”
