part of the reason i am genuinely irritated with the gAI/AGI cult is because there is real societal benefits in using ML techniques in medical care + weather analysis, and instead people get annoyed with anything that gets lumped in with the plagiarism machine
We could save soooo many lives but people are so caught up in their reactionary moral panic nonsense

It's honestly insane how many people fail to understand that the new Cold War is an authoritarian internationale that freely and openly aligns itself across national borders so the retreating from the international stage is just never going to be an option
in 2029, if the US returns to sanity, we are likely to see at least one of Reform, RN, or AfP holding a parliamentary majority. these governments are less antidemocratic than Trump, but we will be returning to a crisis.

In hindsight, perhaps we should have done more to intervene when Zuck incited a genocide in Southeast Asia.

Meta has 100% stopped even *pretending* not to be astoundingly evil.

Any conversation around this that focuses on AI or the righteous scorn of art/history majors(?) and not outsourcing is missing the point.
"Among college graduates ages 22 to 27, computer science and computer engineering majors are facing some of the highest unemployment rates, 6.1% and 7.5% respectively ...

That is more than double the unemployment rate among recent biology and art history graduates, which is just 3%"

I'm legitimately surprised it's only 1 in 5.

The YC startup that posted a photo to LinkedIn of their only female founder infront of a poster about eating ass comes to mind.
