Walking away from Omelas, are you? On our nice walkable infrastructure, mind you. Anywhere else you'd have to drive away from, but not Omelas. There's also an accessible shuttle every 15 minutes, but nooooooo, don't let me slow you down, you've got an Omelas to walk away from, Mr. Ethical.
I am a rational, scientific person, and every day I am newly amazed that Iain M. Banks' zombie doesn't rip its way out of the ground to strangle him.

Insofar as everything since has been the logical elaboration of principles demonstrated in the Leibniz/Babbage/Lovelace era, this statement is demonstrably more true of computer science than it is of Classics.
These guys...

Andreesen said in an interview I heard that there's been "no new information in the Classics since the 1850s" and the amount of stupidity in that is wild. Just wild.

$2,000 would be just enough to pay off the total cost of a 50-year-mortgage at current rates on a $633 house.

I know that's meaningless but, I mean, come on. It all is.
QUINTANILLA: What's more likely -- a $2,000 tariff rebate check or a 50 year mortgage?

HASSETT: They're both really good ideas

Business rent is way too high on Mag (not Miracle) Mile so companies are just shuffling around. H&M moved two blocks down the road to save cash.

He's blaming "murder and crime" in one of the safest parts of the city because the real problem is "landlords." Almost like that's the whole gambit.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

They laughed at me at the university. They said no man could ever acquire all seven* colors of Lands' End Comfort Flex Travel Kit Chinos. The fools! The short-sighted fools!

* ignoring the hideous Forest Moss color obviously, hard pass

MEANWHILE AT KROGER

"That'll be $228.14," the cashier says.

"For this pile of trash? A hundred would be generous," I say.

"Matt. Buddy. You're killing us here. I could maybe do $200."

"$150, final offer."

"Deal. That concludes this normal transaction."

"Thank you, I'm an entrepreneur."
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Why yes, I am maddest of all about the puppy. Service animal training programs are INCREDIBLY effective behavioral incentives in prisons because incarcerated people, being humans, tend to love dogs.

What has she, of all people, done to deserve that? Whose rehabilitation is she stealing now?
"Maxwell has received custom meals personally delivered to her cell, after-hours time in a private exercise area, access to a service puppy, and private meetings with visitors arranged by the warden, complete with snacks. Visitors were allowed to bring computers..."

Democrats reveal whistleblower details of Ghislaine Maxwell prison ‘luxuries’
In a letter to the president, House Democrats say Maxwell’s treatment as she prepares a clemency request makes the convicted sex offender look like a “guest at a Trump hotel.”

If you know an air traffic controller, please ask them what would happen if they scrupulously followed every single one of their workplace's rules and regulations to the letter, reported every single infraction and deviation up the chain, took every minute of their lunch hour, and so forth.

if I'm an ATC who took one measly sick day since it was fucking October and my kid had a cold I am *incandescent* over this.
The President wouldn't last five minutes as an air traffic controller, and after everything they've been through - and the way this administration has treated them from Day One - he has no business shitting on them now.

Trump to air traffic controllers: "For those that did nothing but complain, and took time off, even though everyone knew they would be paid, IN FULL, shortly into the future, I am NOT HAPPY WITH YOU. You didn’t step up to help the U.S.A. against the FAKE DEMOCRAT ATTACK"

I had this boss once, at a convenience store I worked at one summer. He was fired for, y'know, BEING this guy a few days after I started working, and for the rest of the summer everyone told stories about him and laughed.

It radicalized ME and I was a college kid who didn't need the money to eat.

Look at the expression on his face. He can hear the crowd clearly enough to know what they're doing and he still has to read the text.

Sixty thousand people in that stadium and maybe a dozen of them want him to be there, a number that doesn't include him.

I know I'm a sicko, but right now I hate that I have a job, because my STRONG impulse is to jump in my car, drive north for 700 miles until I hit Chicago, then stand out in front of my hotel capering and hooting like a madman as four feet of snow falls.
NWS Chicago is saying that if the snow band stays over Chicago for more than a couple hours, we could see 2-4 FEET of snow

This is the opening scene of a serial killer movie. The bemused detective is called out to the farm to investigate an odd case of vandalism. There's some lighthearted banter until they realize it's not red paint, it's blood. And it's not from the goat.
I thought this was photoshopped but no, oh no indeed. Someone spray painted a goat for last year's #Respectival.

If Microsoft Flight Simulator from the mid-80s taught me anything, it's that we can just divert those O'Hare planes to Meigs Field, which is conveniently right downtown anyway! The it's just a question of logi—what's that? Shut down in 2003? Converted to a park?! Oh yeah then we're fucked.
