Hey look, Israel broke the cease-fire, twice, in two different ways, within 24 hours - again.
NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.

Most autistic humans were never taught what healthy love looks like.

We learned performance.

We called survival connection.

But healthy autistic love isn’t about intensity or constant closeness.

It’s about safety, regulation, clarity, and repair.

Any one of the charges here against the former Sun editor should stop Keir Starmer appointing David Dinsmore.

When you look at them all together - it's an absolute outrage.

London Trans Pride shaping up to be massive.

Trans people staged a huge lobby in Parliament and have been writing to and meeting their MPs.

MPs have told the government to think again re the EHRC

And the government’s response is: “democracy is irrelevant. We will ignore you”.

Seems ill judged.

Valve just updated their Steam rules to ban content that “may violate rules set by payment processors or banks.” Sounds boring. It’s not. It’s the quiet normalization of financial censorship and it’s going to hurt LGBTQ+ games and devs

Privilege is believing that the U.S. is the most dangerous place in the world to be disabled or queer.

That’s not to deny the very real violence, legislative attacks, medical neglect, and burnout disabled and queer people face in America.

It’s brutal.

It’s relentless.

It’s urgent.

A thread 🧵🧶

Young refuseniks burn their IOF draft papers in the middle of Tel Aviv

They refuse to serve in the Israeli Occupation Forces, and are willing to go to military jail for their position. The new generation of refuseniks is supported by the older, many of them spent months in jail already

People living under fascism didn’t survive by giving up joy—they protected it.

They held onto the things fascism tried to erase: art, friendship, jokes, rituals, language, memory.

Not as escapism but as resistance. As proof they were still human.

Joy isn’t frivolous under fascism. It’s strategic.

Reminder of what your favorite now so-called tech critic who was in the "singularity summit" mix for years, and was defending his advisor, race scientist Steven Pinker, was saying to me when I raised these issues.

First, he said I "can't call everything I disagree with eugenics."

I personally think this is too little too late. But it is something. I will be writing again and again to Stella, who is my MP, to continue to advocate for the government to push for an immediate ceasefire, sanctions, prosecutions, and to stop selling arms to genocidal countries and governments
Along with nearly 60 other Labour MPs have called again for the UK to immediately recognise the state of Palestine and work to prevent any attempt by the current Israeli Government to ethnically cleanse Gaza.

I'm *obsessed* with the badass women writers and artists of the Georgian era.

The "libertine" era of the Restoration was over and women were once again being told to behave. To be modest and virtuous.

Some larger-than-life ladies just kept on being brazen and gay.

I'll put links to sources of useful info in this thread.

Currently reading Olivia Laing’s Everybody: A Book About Freedom and it’s very much what needs to be read in this moment, for me at least. It looks at the history of bodily freedom through various movements in history. It’s more of a conversation than anything approaching a solution.

Also step one in writing is having something to say. You can't convince me that people use AI for writing because they, within themselves, have something to say. They merely want the rewards of claiming to have said.

I read widely (including non-fiction!) but I also love romance and paranormal romance (and a bit of romantasy). I find a lot of comfort and emotional regulation in them, plus more likely to find bisexual/sapphic rep in modern romance. Romance can explore serious topics too.
The description of publishing 'reluctantly getting on board' was funny. What genre - with all its subgenres - radically outstrips all others and has done for YEARS without letting up? Romance. This was an engaging piece and a fun bookshop! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Romantasy: Why it's happily ever after for romance books
Despite being mocked by book critics for years, the romantasy genre is booming - and that means big business for publishers and bookshops.

A great thread here. But as someone who grew up in the Deep South with no A/C, a caveat: if you are in a brick home, your house stores thermal energy and will heat up quickly. Keep your home closed as long as the inside temp is lower than outside. Once that switches, open those windows!
Heatwave in the UK. OK, I grew up in Italy, and when it is very hot and you have no air-conditioning, you do this -

1) Unless there's a good breeze, CLOSE all the windows and draw all the blinds and curtains until sunset. The outside air is hot, you do not want it inside with you.

2) DRINK WATER

Feels kinda important to point out that if non-citizens are required to carry proof of legal status, then citizens do too by default. This is absolutely insane.
DHS confirmed that ICE and CBP agents will be on site “for security” at the start of the FIFA Club World Cup at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. ICE also reminded non-U.S. citizens to carry proof of legal status while attending the event.
