a sequel:

cis people on the skyline are genuinely more distressed by the trump-kennedy center than the fact that congress said a second time in 2 days, “no, really this kind of child’s healthcare should be banned & criminalized” & 46/47 non-GOP senators won’t commit to “i will oppose this.”

Nothing fills me with more optimism than the major journal of publishing signing up for the "steal from authors in order to put all the book people out of work" industry.
AI isn’t coming to publishing—it’s already here. PW’s new AI for Publishing Bootcamp gives teams the tools and workflows to keep up.

First session is Feb 11. Early Bird pricing is now open.

Back in 2015,a wonderful artist named Aud Koch was working at Helioscope in our mentorship program. As an exercise, she re-worked Wally Wood's 22 Panels in her own style, just to see how Wood's ideas might work for her.
(Aud's left commercial art, so all of those URLs at the bottom are kaput.)

there’s a quote I love which I believe is originally from Paul Tillich, though I first heard it from a book by Ann Lamott: “The opposite of faith is not doubt; it is certainty.”

I used to talk about that all the time with my Confirmation kids who weren’t sure how they felt about God

Look, if you seriously think that these people have any sort of coherent master plan, little yet one based on relatively nuanced understandings of transition outcomes for differing populations, you’re delusional. This is the “inject bleach” crowd. They don’t really do master plans.
The reason they're so focused on trans teens is that people who transition younger typically blend into society better. To the extent that they're willing to tolerate our existence in society at all, they'd rather we be easily identified by our appearance/voices/etc.
Cis people really have no idea how it feels to watch a regime hold a press conference to admit, on camera, the pogrom against trans people they've been waging for 11 months is not only real, but they're going to double down on genocide and try to wipe out all the children first.

I invite you to ask yourself why the language of protestors has been a terrifying daily concern, but e.g. successive governments giving the US unlimited use of our airbases to fly a gajillion dollars of weapons of destruction into Israel for use on huge numbers of civilians is not concerning at all.

I just don't think a movie review is fatal. I don't do any great damage to a movie by not liking it, particularly if it's a big movie. If it's a small innovative movie or a small-budget movie, if I don't like it, I generally don't say so anyway. I just don't review the movie.

What the Noam Chomsky–Jeffrey Epstein E-mails Tell Us
Chomsky has often suffered fools, knaves, and criminals too lightly. Epstein was one of them. But that doesn’t mean Chomsky was part of the “Epstein class.”

Working with Chad Griffin, they founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights and got Ted Olson and David Boies to team up to fight Prop 8.

The thing about comics criticism is that most places don't actually pay for your contributions. For a lot of us, we purely do it for the love of writing. Tiffany doing this over the last couple years is huge for people who want to write while everything gets more and more expensive
