A nice surprise from @pearljam.com, a new official live video of "Upper Hand" Philly 2024 featuring my stage visuals behind the band; this was one of the feature tentpole pieces of our Dark Matter production design's abstract narrative. Created w/ practical miniature VFX + digital light simulations.

Great piece by Zadie Smith. When the right talks about classics or "Western" culture, these works are only important to the extent that it demonstrates their superiority, they have no interest in art in and of itself beyond that www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

in Paris, I had to see a same-day doctor & I found one. was gravely warned that, as a foreigner, I’d have to pay 32 euros & I laughed & laughed

a friend there said “make sure you get X kind of doctor, not Y, because the Y kind charges 74 WHOLE EUROS” & once again I bitterly, bitterly laughed 😭
My ACA current plan is going from $385/mo to $821/mo.

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.

President Trump is determined to send National Guard troops to Portland. Voters don't want it (via Bloomberg Opinion)
Trump Is Stuck in 2020. Portland Is Not.
First it was Los Angeles. Then Washington. Now apparently it’s “war ravaged” Portland. National Guard troops could be deployed to the Oregon city as soon as Thursday, ostensibly to protect a federal immigration facility from criminal behavior by “antifa and other domestic terrorists.”

I think we are great risk of a future where unregulated use of tech turns America’s educational system into something even more segregated and classist than it is today - poor kids get largely automated “education” and surveillance discipline, rich kids get gentle low-tech instruction from humans.
I went to a private Waldorf high school in the 2000s that was filled with the children of tech professionals - who explicitly wanted a lower-tech education for them.

Many tech execs believe in careful exposure to tech for their kids, while also thinking AI teaching is fine for the great unwashed.

Always worth saying: the ongoing choice to make SCOTUS opaque and hieratic rather than democratically accessible is a deeply ideological one, meant to create the false impression the country's most important decisions are made via oracular revelation rather than by nine human beings like you and me.

This is abuse of a corpse and it is REVOLTING.
The BBC has created an electric zombie Agatha Christie in order to sell writing classes. This is stomach-churningly awful, and the sooner this stupid, useless, frankly evil bubble bursts, the better. Disgusting.

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.
