i don't get the love for waymo in certain urbanist circles. it's safer cars, at least it seems that way from available data, but it's more cars. more cars are bad! we should want less cars!

seattle's cycling network has grown what - 30% in a decade?

and quite poorly at that. siiigh.
London is fast becoming a cycling city. As each new piece in the network appears—which has more than quadrupled from 90 to 431 km since 2016—so do new cyclists. Its infrastructure now sees a stunning 1.5 million daily users—a 43% spike since 2019—moving nearly half as many people as the Tube below.🧵

No! You don't keep going if you hit something! It's that simple!

Cascadia NOW!
California, and the country, cannot await the outcome of the midterms to repel Trump’s siege on democracy. More drastic action is required.
It’s time for soft secession

We call emergency community meetings to debate the "dangers" of ebikes, but systemic vehicular violence continues to get a pass from society at large.
It looks to me like this 90-year old driver drove 177 feet down University Ave in Los Gatos in one second, which comes out to about 120 miles per hour

This is why we need more nuclear power
One of many tragedies here is that the states that are seeing the fastest rate increases are in the central part of the country where historic reliance on coal and a political fear of change have the potential to conspire and make this much worse.

Here is my completely objective pie ranking:

Best:
1. Chocolate pecan
2. Apple
3. Key lime

Worst:
1. Rhubarb
2. Pumpkin
3. Candied yams (not a pie but deserves a dishonorable mention)

The only thing on my mind today has been this battery snafu. Even in spite of this, in spite of Rad going under - I still maintain that my ebike has been the best purchase I've ever made.
Well, shit.

What do I do now?

They haven't caught fire in the 4.5yrs we've owned these bikes. I've left my bike in the rain several times over the years, and nothing bad happened. I don't want to spend $1,200 to replace these batteries.

Hot take: Fremont Bridge should be closed to cars and open only for bikes and pedestrians. For cars it's mostly redundant with Aurora Bridge and we're never going to build a new bridge (with the required ability to open, especially) for non-cars. As a historic bridge it'll last a lot longer, too.

Living in the US in 2025: The government that hates green tech says your e-bike battery might explode if it gets wet, but the company says, nuh uh, only if it gets REALLY wet. And now you, a person who needs their e-bike and also doesn't want their house to burn down, has to figure out what to do.

the fact that amtrak cascades hit another ridership record in FY25 despite shutting down for two weeks and spending half the year running smaller trains with higher prices bc of the horizon recall is another sign that the demand for rail in the pnw is genuinely insatiable

I actually think we could run 20+ daily roundtrips, with hourly or better service, and see mostly full trains

You don't need to "partner" with billionaires, you need to TAX them!
Last week, we announced a partnership between state government and Ballmer Group to fund free preschool for Washingtonians in need.

Next school year, our goal is to use these funds to enroll an additional 2,000 students.
