An affordability crisis is sweeping the US, as high prices of food, rents and healthcare force lower-income Americans to cut back on necessities just as the Trump administration curbs government supports. on.ft.com/48gJPqm

seems like an easy fix for the US to just adopt the sensible EU regs! bsky.app/profile/bubb...
again, this is a Europe regulations vs U.S. regulations thing! there are a total of five pages discussing the different beam strength at different wavelengths in the european standard, whereas the DOT says headlights must be "white."

People say they expected Mountain View or Los Altos but this seems right to me - Portola Valley, Atherton, etc, with big low density lots that rarely change hands & thus don’t get re-appraised often
"We label jurisdictions like [these dark blue ones] “municipal tax havens” for the way they shield property wealth from taxation."

Are the dark blue areas the ones that you expected based on that description?

For all the discourse over Bay Area inequality, LA is on a totally different level

This piece is as good as people say it is. A fierce critique of zoning, by the former executive director of the zoning office in Baltimore.

4 images that perfectly tell a California story:

A 3 bed 1 bath 988 sqft house sold for $2.8M

In a school district that has to do budget cuts

While trying to help its growing number of homeless students

Meanwhile residents are mad that a Chase will be replaced with 6 stories of apartments

See? No need for more housing!
By 2050 assuming current fertility patterns persist, we should expect America to look like modern day France or Germany when it comes to the Old Age Dependency ratio.

Germany will exceed Japan’s current dependency ratio.

And Japan?

5 workers for every 4 seniors. Game over.

In the end, when I walked from my X account, the waves of racists and bots that were always invoking the same phrases and talking points made it clear that the thing was just a hall of mirrors, that it had been crudely rigged for political fraud. Never thought Musk would admit it all in a self-own.

Ignore this guy. That’s just crazy talk. Imagine locking in the mistakes of today forever by building for even more tech!

Here’s the real talk: once this AI bubble bursts, we can Make Santa Clara Orchards Again
It’s really incredible how we decided that cities should no longer be physically shaped by the industries that carry them. I wrote this about the tech industry’s lack of a built legacy in Manhattan over a decade ago, but it could be written 10x over in the Bay Area newyorkyimby.com/2014/12/how-...
How New York City is Robbing Itself of the Tech Industry's Built Legacy - New York YIMBY
With strict limits on growth in Midtown South and on the Brooklyn waterfront, tech giants are leaving little architecture behind for future generations.

FINLAND IS NOT RE-GAUGING ITS RAILWAYS

Just because an urbanist influencer has posted a 6 months old piece (that was anyway inaccurate) about it does not mean it is happening!

Finland *might* lay some additional standard gauge track from Sweden to Oulu
