My sense is that the 22 agencies that were combined into the new Department of Homeland Security in 2002 generally functioned better before the combination. Isn't it worth seriously considering whether it's time to do away with DHS and disperse its various functions back to DOJ, Treasury, etc?

This is not the first time. There was a US Maoist group which tore itself apart in the early 80s in a "struggle against racism" which went as far as declaring that inter-racial relationships were racist. It's a shame meme-tankies don't learn from their ancestors.
An uncomfortable truth that will be made very obvious to you if you are mixed race or in an interracial relationship (I'm both!) is that there genuinely is a segment of people who use lefty or SJ language to articulate and defend straight up segregationist values and policy preferences.

one of the stranger phenomena in American life is that hate is supposed to flow in one direction (rural people get to hate urban people, Republicans get to hate Democrats) and if the hate goes the other way people pretend as if this is very upsetting.
