Pieces missing from your vintage copy of a mouse-extermination-themed board game and now the mechanism doesn't work right?

Problematic cage trap

problematic age nap
Been angry so long you can't remember why anymore?

Problematic rage gap.

A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

As someone who was raised with religion but never found much of it believable, I learned a new way to think about religion, that helped me to understand my experience with Catholicism, from Karen Armstrong: as an object of anthropological study

"The report has no answer to the media ownership problem. It doesn’t even raise it as a question. It includes pages upon pages bemoaning the Democratic Party’s messaging woes, without ever considering that the problem might be that its opponents have access to much larger megaphones."
My favorite thing as a writer is when I start ranting about something on Bluesky, get it all out of my system, and then turn it into a real piece of writing.

On that note: hey, it’s me, heckling centrist Dems in the New Republic!

"If you want access to [the attention economy], you better get comfortable making lowest-common-denominator bullshit in front of a camera. And, of course, it’s a lot easier to feel good about doing that if you’re an idiot."
The Trump admin is fully powered by the attention economy. A universe of dumbasess talking to other dumbasess, built on the assumption our tastes have grown so rotten and atrophied that we can't even remember a world where we weren't inundated by worthless slop.

Almost everyone on here has fantasized about the day when It finally happens but I think we have underrated the possibility of It being a gradual process that is a source of both physical and psychic torment 🙂

When I was a freshman Man. . . Or Astroman? was playing the night before my organic chem final. I went to the show, took a take-home exam on the law of war from 1-4AM, studied for the exam from 4-6, slept for two and a half hours, showed up late to the exam and closed out the class with a B+
I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

Imo the correct term would probably be *anti*political
I actually think it's off base for the descriptor of these angry young white men who think violence is cool and/or funny to be "non-political." They are making rape jokes and saying racist things and wanting to sow chaos. That's literally the Alex Jones, Steve Bannon playbook.
@kenklippenstein.bsky.social with the receipts, actually talking to the shooter's friends.

Surprise! Not the left, or even MAGA. Another white kid who spent countless hours online and "was an edgelord who wanted someone to get blamed … to rile people up.”

"All of these problems combine to do something very dangerous: they suggest to Americans (and particularly young Americans) that free speech is bullshit. . . “Free speech culture,” as practiced in American, makes this deal seem like a scam."
Breaking character: Ken White has a fantastic post about how "free speech culture" undermines free speech. It's something I've thought about a lot before, but Ken knows way more about it than I do and explains it really well.
