were Asoiaf does do a bit of meta work is that it commits to show a whole bunch of characters that are "pffft that shit aint real, i have real stuff to deal with" when it comes to the esoteric parts of the world
the big oraching plot point is "teh only way the army of undead ice golems can be defeated is if the mystical fire jesus is ressurected so sayth the propehcy" like who are you fooling. you made a fun fanatsy worlds who cares!

GRRM basically lies to himself and to us every day about the level of High Strangeness of his fantasy series. hes all like "oh its ground oh tax policy" *when your focal point dynasty of your book series are albino blood wizards taht control dragons with incest magic*
So one of the great fantasy literature ironies is that Martin rags on Tolkien about tax policy and military structure but his is just as flimsy if not worse

One thing I think people outside of the fandom don't realize is that pro wrestling fans aren't really jocks or rednecks or whatever the perception is anymore they are mostly nerds. From my experiences the average pro wrestling fan is closer to the average anime or like sci-fi/fantasy obsessive
