Great work by my colleague Nicola Heath, summing up the arts policies of the major parties and the key issues for the different parts of the industry ahead of the election this weekend.
Arts is a $64 billion industry — so why aren't the leaders talking about it?
Financial support for artists, local content quotas for streaming platforms and AI regulation are on the agenda this election.

There's been a lot said about the politics of Creative Australia's decision to drop Khaled Sabsabi from the 2026 Venice Biennale, but what about the art? This week on The Art Show, Rex Butler and Paris Lettau from Memo Review join us for an art historical approach to the work.

a pox on the houses of everyone, in the UK, the US or elsewhere who, despite not seeing themselves as reactionaries, decided that trans kids were somehow the most important issue in the world at a time when so much else was going on, and who got their wishes now, but at what cost
Donald Trump has just released a national under 18 trans care ban executive order. I am working through specifically how it tries to do this, and will live tweet here section by section as I read through it.

It is not yet on the website, but has been released via press release.

Actually it stands for Radio National that's 576 AM 24 hour non stop good times tune in
first of all, some housekeeping. you may be seeing mentions of "RN" thinking it's referring to RedNote, a tiktok competitor. this is incorrect—RN stands for ReNner, as in the Jeremy Renner app

"Don't you think when people tell you you're allowed to do whatever you want as long as it's not sexually X-rated that they should stand behind their word and show your cow?" Lynch said.
One of my favourite small David Lynch moments is when he tried to do one of those ceramic art cows for New York City and submitted this and was rejected.

David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. “Lynchian” is so overused because it’s a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I can’t imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.

It's also destroying the creative industry, not because it will outdo creatives but because it will be used by aforementioned horrid people as leverage to undermine writers/artists at every level, and the more you use it the more leverage you're giving them!
sorry to be both blunt and righteous but I think this is also true of people making "funny" images of eg Trump or Musk looking silly, or doing stupid ChatGPT prompts for fun - there's no right way to use generative AI! all of it is slop destroying the planet and making horrid people more powerful!
every time I see a mutual post some piece of AI shit, I die a little more inside - why don't you just stab me with a fucking ice pick instead
