this is why it drives me insane. thank you james. imagine if the army watched iran-iraq and decided "alright boys we need to throw out AirLand Battle and do exactly what the iraqis are doing. it's The Future"
I think the best parallel is the Iran-Iraq War. It’s a brutal slog between under equipped and exhausted conventional military forces that probably has no real bearing on how other contemporary conventional conflicts be will be fought.
Looking back through history, what war is most relevant for thinking about how the Ukraine war is going or a hypothetical Taiwan war? I’ve heard of people referring to the Ukraine War as “World War 1 with Blade Runner aesthetics” is that a fair characterization?

I think it’s pretty notable there were 40 minutes between the first missile and second missile which is a very abnormal amount of time to debate what to do
NEW info on shipwreck attack. It gets worse.

The 2 survivors climbed atop wreckage and waved to overhead.

"Some of the people viewing the video thought ... could have been an attempt to surrender"

Others "said the most logical explanation was ... signaling for a rescue."

one way in which trump II is different than trump I is that there are far fewer people involved this time, and they're all true believers, so we're getting far fewer leaks this time around. i wouldn't be surprised if the number of people who know for certain what this is turns out to be less than 10
It really is amazing that the president has a noticeable an unexplained physical ailment that is disfiguring his right hand and there's no reporting about it. The White House's line is that it's from Trump shaking too many hands! Something is clearly being covered up.

Oh, it’s because all the tech stuff started out as hippie stuff, then it was new age stuff, and the through-line up until the Web 2.0 era is fairly fanatical devotion to a flowery, utopian libertarianism
my most parochial take is that a lot of national dysfunction and elite pathologies genuinely do primarily spring from roots in the SF Bay Area. like why do so many tech sector types have such insane opinions about the efficacy of the govt?

Won't the whole SOF community be relieved when doing water survival training that properly packed cocaine acts as a flotation device. Bradley "I was shooting the remains of the boat, the people just got in the way."

i mean they’re dismantling rural economies. i don’t actually think you can argue with a straight face that flyover country would be more willing to get out and vote against a candidate who says they want to crush flyover country because it’s deplorable than anyone else.
coming around on the idea that the easiest voters to peel off GOP coalition are just the ones that crave the boot. promise to step on them just as much as the GOP will and they'll gladly take it, because then they get to pretend to hate it cuz its Ds doing it

they hate freedom! we can exploit that.
the meaner I am to people on the right, the more they kinda like me

Their stupidity is sometimes the only thing protecting us from their malice. That's money they'll sorely wish they hadn't wasted.
for those of you counting at home, that's $50M/day x more than 120 days, that DHS budget isn't going to last anywhere near as long as it was intended to

A sycophant who will tell you whatever you want to hear and attempt to do whatever you tell it to, and has no sense of responsibility or discretion or professionalism.

Voting has consequences and the voters are ultimately the ones responsible for them. There are no excuses or explanations.
I actually think we should stop telling the people responsible for this country's problems that they're the innocent ones rather than the architects of what's happening to them

White voters in small towns earned this. They brought it on us all, and they should be blamed.
Like, I think this is a good basic pitch, but he's also pretty uninterested in actually landing that punch, he just found a rhetorical punch to land at other Democrats, namely:

The Roberts Six have thoroughly politicized the Court and turned it into a reliable arm of the RNC.

Democrats should have no reservations about calling them out for it, demanding resignations from these bought-off hacks and running on a promise to enact sweeping reforms.

Genuinely surprised she’s suffering any backlash here because I’m completely convinced she got hired not because of a failure of due diligence but because Condé Nast doesn’t actually believe she did anything improper
You've known for a year that she had a sexual relationship with a source and lied about it to her previous employer. She admits in her book—which VF excerpted—that she helped RFK Jr's campaign! Amateur hour not to investigate any of this before hiring her.
