As a special treat for Halloween tomorrow, I'm uploading all 10 parts of my "Dressed Up Comics" mini-series from earlier this month -- all in sequence and higher res scans, instead of just snapping a picture like usual 👻 🎃

Up first: Jim Davis, Gary Larson, Bill Watterson, E.C. Segar
A single-panel comic drawn in pen with inkwash shading: the comic features me (a white lady with long, dark, wavy hair and round glasses) and my two cats, all drawn in the cartooning style of Jim Davis, author and artist of the Garfield comic. I am drawn similarly to the character "Liz," with a round, bulbous head and egg-shaped eyes, and I'm holding my longhair cat Margo who is drawn very similarly to the character Nermal, and she's looking up at me with angry eyes. Next to us, standing on my closed sketchbook is my shorthair cat Egg Noodle, who is drawn like Garfield himself and doing that pose where his head is tilted all the way back with one hand in the air and the other grabbing Margo's tail. There are little hearts floating next to his head, and since he already looks quite a lot like Garfield, he's got a legible name tag hanging from his collar that says "EGG NOODLE." The caption in the comic is a hand-drawn variation of the "Copper Black" font (the font that Garfield's title is often presented in), and says "Dressing my comic up as other comics." Beneath the comic is my signature (Kat Baumann), today's date (10-1-2025) and the time I spent drawing this (50 minutes) Single-panel comic drawn in pen with inkwash, drawn in the style of The Far Side Gallery by Gary Larson. The caption above the comic says "Dressing my comic up as other comics: Pt. 2" In the comic, my spouse and I stand in our home and look out a side window which has absolutely giant acorn squash leaves pressing up against the glass. My shorthair tabby cat Egg Noodle sits on our piano with his extraordinarily long tail winding down over the bench, staring out the window with bulbous eyes, and in the foreground my longhair cat Margo sits calmly on our round table. There is a Far-Side-Gallery-style caption just below the panel flanked by quotation marks, which says "Perhaps it was a mistake to neglect the vegetable garden during radioactive rain season." Beneath that Larson-esque caption is my signature (Kat Baumann), today's date (10-2-2025) and the time I spent drawing this (50 minutes) Single panel comic drawn in pen in the style of Bill Watterson, author of Calvin and Hobbes, and continuing on from yesterday's comic about giant vines and leaves pressing up against the window of my house. The top caption on the comic says "Dressing my comic up as other comics: Pt. 3" In the comic, my spouse and I are drawn like Calvin and Hobbes (my spouse looks like Hobbes, but with square glasses and cheetah spots instead of tiger stripes, and I am drawn as Calvin but with round glasses and long, dark, wavy hair. I'm gesturing happily at he center of the panel and saying "Woah-- we got a ton of acorn squash from the radioactive vine!" James/Hobbes ("Jobbes") is scratching their head and looking at the acorn squashes, some of which are arranged in monstrous "snowman" builds, similar to many of the Calvin and Hobbes comics do with snowmen, and saying "This seems... ominous." The top caption says "I yam dressin' my comic up as other comics! (Pt. 4)" Panel 1 shows me (drawn like Popeye the Sailor but with long, wavy black hair) being swatted by a long, tendril coming from a sentient acorn squash vine with a swift "shooop!" SFX, stars flying outward and my glasses popping upward off my head. Beside me is my spouse (a tall person with curly dark hair and square glasses) drawn like Olive Oyl and clasping their hands together with surprise. In panel 2, I'm running away from the vines and carrying my spouse, while saying "Better get back in da house before we gets exercuted," which is a direct reference to the original Popeye comic panel described in the first comment on this post. Beneath the comic is my signature (Kat Baumann), today's date (10-4-2025) and the time I spent drawing this (50 minutes)
