Day 365: What better way to bookend this year than by reprising the very first drawing I did in 2025?

We made it through, friends. I'm going to miss these dailies, but I won't be going anywhere -- you'll see warmup sketches while I work on some bigger projects!

The single-panel comic I drew on the first day of 2025: it has a sloppy border and a simple gesture line drawing of my shorthair cat Egg Noodle looking to the side mischievously, with a top caption that says "The boy feasted on toilet paper." Beneath the comic is my signature (Kat Baumann), the date it was drawn (1-1-2025) and the time I spent drawing it (one minute) A redone version of the comic I drew on January 1st, but with much more detail; the comic is drawn in pen with inkwash shading and depicts in detail my shorthair cat Egg Noodle with one piece of toilet paper hanging out of his mouth and a vacant expression on his little face. Day 364: One more day to go, nerds!

It has come to my attention that I drew this bird prematurely before looking at more photos, so I had NO IDEA how crazy their plumage actually is. Patriotic-ass bird.
A photo of the "satyr tragopan" bird, which has an orange-red body speckled with black and white dots, but it's holding its head/neck in a way that spreads out the feathers on the front of its neck and chest, which look like red and white stripes on the side with a field of blue with white dots in the center (Please don't yell at me for not knowing the right terminology for bird parts, I'm still grappling with the existence of this ridiculous creature)

Day 363: One more Animal Un-familiar for the year (couldn't resist gouache-ing this one)

Panel 2 shows the way I imagine this animal looks, without looking up any reference or seeing it before. It's a drawing of a 4-legged, cloven-hoofed animal with a short deer tail and spots on its side, a head that looks kind of like a boxer terrier dog with goat eyes and a wideset cow nose. Little notes in the margin say "front-facing eyes? Like a predator? Cloven hooves, I guess??" Panel 3 starts with a caption box that says "Here's how it actually looks:" And shows a colored drawing of the satyr tragopan, which looks like a bright red-orange pheasant with blue feathers on its head and slightly on its tail, covered in white spots that are lined in black. Really dug this one. NEVER MEANT was a proposed graphic novel about a band reuniting 15 years after recording and releasing a single album that both tore them apart as friends and went on to become more influential than they could have ever imagined.

Day 361 (or 362?): Felt like doing a little inkwash study and playing with shadowy interiors

Day 360! Conclusion of the Silly Little Guys' penultimate meeting

Day 359: Checking in with the Silly Little Guys(tm) again:

Day 356: Rat Prince, Rat Steward, Rat Queen Regent...

This idea came to me late. I think it fits really well since Portland Frog Brigade literally carries no weapons and yet ICE has no idea how to respond to them. Just feckless incompetent goons all around.

Day 354: Presented without comment (although the second panel did make me laugh audibly as I was inking it)

Day 353: The holiday season got me thinking of those old vintage ads, wanted to break out my gouache again today
