PSA - dual NZ/UK citizen?
NZers (and others) with dual UK NZ citizenship will need to travel to the UK with a British passport (or certificate of entitlement) after 24 Feb.
You can no longer get an ETA on an NZ passport - you’ll need to get/renew a British passport.
Check here …

I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.

Maybe the Minister could give back the $90 million they took from Masterton, that was supposed to be used to fix up the hospital, but which was used instead to patch up the CoC's budget hole.

This fuckin’ government, man…

“We would like to inform you that FluTracking New Zealand will pause over the summer period. The final survey for 2025 was emailed on 15 December. The Ministry of Health of New Zealand has decided not to renew the contract with FluTracking Australia going forward. “

And cuts keep coming. NZ Health Ministry not renewing Flu Tracking contract. Very short-sighted given the monster flu season unfolding in UK/EU right now.

I’m actually a bit gutted about FluTracking ending. It was an important part of the COVID response and made me feel part of a team; I dutifully did my survey every Monday morning. And now this excellent crowdsourced science tool has been casually axed, yesterday it turns out. info.flutracking.net

Min of Health has decided not to continue with the FluTracking survey each week from next year.

What a ridiculous decision. The cost savings must be minimal

What are our taxes actually used for if not things like public health?

This is such an easy one to support, especially if you've ever squinted at the measly painted gutters on Green Lane West and thought: "That's not a bike lane!"

TL;DR: Auckland Transport is proposing to paint the on-road lanes a little wider. Do it once, do it right – physically protect these lanes!
All we want for Christmas is a bite of safety the size of a chocolate bar 🍫

Auckland Transport’s proposed improvements for cycling on Green Lane West won’t meet safety standards – but small tweaks can change that.

OK, Tāmaki Makaurau, the hornet army is on the march. Time to saddle up, cut up some bottles and trap the little bastards before they do any more damage.

MPI has bumped up the zone so if you're inside that purple line it's time to get busy.
