In retrospect maybe it wasn't so great for society that we spent a half-century telling ourselves we're all basically selfish pieces of shit and need to accept that we're selfish pieces of shit, and therefore we should encourage being a selfish piece of shit and reward being a selfish piece of shit.

I hate these fucking ChatGPT commercials that show it helping folks like planning a date that seems "chill," or how to become a "morning person," all things that should've been learned from a community not a goddamned spicy autocorrect.

Fuck all that noise.

Hot take: affordability doesn’t mean affordability. That just a convenient handle given to ppl by the media. It a proxy for greater and more subtle discontent, feelings of powerlessness, distrust of elites. Mamdani won bc he addressed that. We will make NYC our city and no a city for the rich alone.

I encounter people who seem to have lost touch with the concept of being a physical presence in a three dimensional space. Their body being present in, say, a doorway, while they stare at their phone cannot occur to them. Everyone is now the only human who exists. Seems bad.
Can't remember if it was this bad before COVID but I'm seeing an alarming spreading of what I'll call Airport Behavior to other public places. Obliviousness to other people's existence, ineptitude at navigating the environment. "Is this your first time at the grocery store" type stuff

the fact that dealing with rampant lying and its much worse downstream consequences involves cultivating values rather than just imposing formal frameworks or rules (legal or otherwise) is a tough pill to swallow for some. but it is indeed medicine
Pointing out that something is incorrect definitely isn't sufficient - the *culture* of "it is bad to make incorrect statements, good to promptly and clearly retract and apologize for them, and disqualifying to keep making them deliberately" is the framework needed for fact-checking to plug into.
