yesterday i published this piece about Trump floating a bullshit plan to "raise taxes on the rich" in order to bait the media into talking about it. shortly after, the GOP released their tax plan, which naturally includes no tax such increase on the rich.

"The intent we're seeing over and over, whether it's Project 2025, or bills like this, or public statements, is that that they believe that 'pornography' should not be legal — and what they believe to be 'pornography' is this all-encompassing conversation about sex and sexuality."
New GOP bill would basically ban porn, experts warn
The Interstate Obscenity Definition Act would rewrite SCOTUS's definition of obscenity.

A key difference here is that while either can be incorrect, the structure of Wikipedia *creates context* and the structure of LLMs *destroys context*

Wikipedia has linked sources and an edit history showing where information came from and who added it when

An LLM just generates text
Some of the anti-AI stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes

This is a nice thread about The Onion. Thank you for saying nice things, and I can confirm the premise: If you pay your staff well, and you allow them to do what they're great at, it works better than chasing algorithms. The art is better, the truth is found easier, and—bonus!—the revenue is better.
It isn't a surprise to me that returning to print has made the Onion significantly funnier, but it is a surprise to me how *quickly* it has done so.

I’ve seen this reposted into my feed a few times, and it’s fake. The reason I highlight it is to point out that *everyone* should be able to tell on sight that it’s wrong— there’s no story link, the poster has gone to some lengths to obscure the source of the false headline (ifunny.co I think), etc.

There’s just so much shady shit in this story, but this really sticks out. Folks in NLRB’s IT unit were so freaked out by what they saw DOGE doing that they wanted to notify the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Then this happened:

Just so we’re clear, everybody calling Kilmar Abrego Garcia a “terrorist” or a “gang member” are lying, and they know they’re lying, and they repeat it for purposes of confusing people who don’t follow this stuff closely into accepting what was done to him.

This official MLB info on Jackie Robinson (!) strips all references to race, racism or the basic fact of the MLB once being segregated. They want to do this with all history because you can’t have a worldview based on bullshit lies about the present unless you have bullshit history that supports it.
The "Jackie Robinson Day background" section of MLB's official press release about Jackie Robinson just notes that he was a first baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers who debuted in 1947. Nothing about the how, the why.

The framing from legacy media on the Ms Rachel stuff is insane. Nowhere do they say that these are baseless claims, or that what she said (every child's life is precious and worthy) is not "Hamas propaganda." If u didn't know the background to this story and saw this post, you'd believe their smear

People don't miss manufacturing jobs. They miss the effects of having 30+ percent union density. And we can build worker power again, with good policies, for the jobs most working class people actually have today rather than hoping mumbo jumbo will make it 1955 again.
When (some) people talk about bringing back manufacturing, they mean "bring back steel & auto jobs that someone can take right out of high school, and live a middle class life"
The worst part of this is that even if manufacturing jobs came back because of this (they won’t)
and even if Americans retooled for those jobs (they won’t) those jobs sucked! It’s like demanding to return to being a farming society. People fled that life the instant they could, in the millions!

There's no other regime I can think if that has targeted medical workers and health facilities as persistently as Israel.

Horrific, unceasing crimes against humanity.
