The Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse on Nov 7, 1940 stands as one of the most dramatic and instructive engineering failures.

At the time it had the longest center span of any suspension bridge.

This disaster improved the understanding of aerodynamic forces in civil engineering.

“Galloping Gertie” fell into Puget Sound on November 7, 1940, when 42 mph winds caused the suspension bridge to twist violently and collapse.

I'm doing my 4th annual Black Friday gravel ride this year, so if you live in Massachusetts you should definitely join. It'll be 30ish miles and include a delightful coffee stop midway through.

I got four at the start, and three during. The ride was hard and my take picture brain went dormant.

Yes, a cargo bike is big, but it's designed to be a "guest" in the urban space, fitting neatly on a sidewalk. Cars and trucks demand that the entire space be re-engineered just for them.

I disagree. Campaigning on bike lanes and free buses IS campaigning on climate.

Real climate politics is about practical measures that change infrastructure, technologies, industries and practices. Not about paper targets or interminable pointless debates with denialists.

A neighborhood in Beverly ran its first-ever bike bus shortly after new bike lanes were added on busy Bridge Street. It's amazing what can happen when we build infrastructure that makes all riders feel safer!
