A non-fishhead bestie asked me "What is your pick for most underrated fish?" and of course I replied the eel. Etched in the history of many cultures, yet full of mystery across their metamorphosis and epic migrations between the open sea to rivers far inland. For "life cycle" #SundayFishSketch 🦑🐡🧪

Combining the life cycle theme for #sundayfishsketch h with #GarWeek for a quick ink sketch of the Alligator Gar life cycle. Eggs -> larval -> juvenile -> adult -> back to eggs!

Don't eat those eggs!

We are getting some beautiful autumn weather here in NE. This season always evokes a sense of things coming to pass and a year coming to an end. Thus, the #SundayFishSketch #Fishytheme for this weekend is "lifecycles." Sketch a fish lifecycle, can be as simple or complex as you want! #sciart 🦑

I'm late to my own party (again, sigh) but my new book on #spinosaurid #dinosaurs (written with @davehone.bsky.social) was officially released yesterday! Tons of info on and #paleoart of spinosaurs therein: research history, evolution, ecology, life appearance etc. Available wherever books are sold.

I need to pick a group of animals for the 2026 science valentines.

First year was cephalopods, last year was bugs.

Snails?

We already have crabs, frogs, eels on advent.

Fish?

Can't do anything ultra-popular like dinos or sharks, it's already a saturated market.

Marine creature assortment?

Spooky theme of #SundayFishSketch is the marbled stargazer. A nightmare fish buried in the sand and waiting to ambush its prey. www.discoverwildlife.com/animal-facts...

This week’s #sundayfishsketch prompt was spooky fish or fish w/spooky names. I started down a toadfish rabbit hole b/c they always look menacing. Discovered a new group to me. The plunderfish with their odd little chin barbels. Denizens of the cold waters of the southern oceans around Antarctica.
