“Before 25 December 1929
Calder creates his first formal mechanized sculpture, Goldfish Bowl, and presents it to his mother as a Christmas gift. For his father, he makes a brass wire fish. In a letter to Peggy, Nanette writes, He made me a fish tank of brass wire, with two fish that wiggle as you turn a crank made also of wire. Waves are indicated along the top. For your Dad a large fish that is now hanging from the electric light. Peggy, it is remarkable. One wire beginning at his tail, running along the backbone to the head where the eyes and mouth are faultlessly placed. Then the wire loops around the back bone as it travels back to form the other half of the tail. I love seeing these birds!
We have a few red-breasted nuthatches this winter and the yard is filled with their nasally beeps.
But there is occasionally a slightly louder nasally beep and it belongs to this guy!
This male White-breasted nuthatch was in today checking out the spruce trees for snacks!

You all need to read this today. I’m so inspired by women doing the jobs that need to be done, stepping up, and just accepting tasks and responsibilities. ❤️
During the Great Depression, the WPA hired 274 librarians, mostly local women, to carry books from local libraries to rural Appalachian residents, riding 100-120 miles a week, across rugged terrain.

Today was just so horrible for the people of Minnesota. I can’t say anything that others are not saying better. Please take time to find sources on the ground so you know what is happening, find legitimate places to give money or assistance, and if you are a praying kind of person, pray.

I think I finally blew through the wall of despair on the state of the world and am into:
1) help who you can;
2) make the exploiters pay;
3) cherish those who lift you up;
4) practice self- care so you can carry on the fight.

I got the borders on the quilt today. I’m quite pleased with it 😊 I’ll take it to the quilter when I go to pick up the one that is there now. I’m losing my layout area because that’s where I start plants under grow lights so there may be a short hiatus before the next new quilt.
