"And in the darkness I smile at life, as if I were the possessor of charm which would enable me to transform all that is evil and tragical into serenity and happiness. But when I search my mind for the cause of this joy, I find there is no cause, and can only laugh at myself." - Rosa Luxemburg
Never mind the performative cruelty & the stupidity of announcing “changes” which aren’t actually changes, there has obviously been no real analysis on how any of this will actually work. People having their status reviewed & potentially revoked every 2.5yrs for up to 20yrs -

The Minister spoke about the value of experienced prison officers — yet 2,600 staff now face deportation because the Home Office has raised the salary threshold to £41,700.

Why is the government forcing out the very people who keep prisons functioning?

Techbros: “We reinvented money and now it’s computer money and it’s totally better than old money except also it’s value is still technically calculated by the standard of old money oh ALSO it needs more power than many countries, does your inferior dollar bill need to be plugged in? I THINK NOT.”
Bitcoin now consuming as much energy as the entire country of Pakistan.

That seems bad.
The people at CBECI were kind enough to send me a copy of their updated Bitcoin power consumption data

At the end of 2024, Bitcoin's total consumption for 2024 *did* end up matching that of Pakistan. 2024 saw the biggest jump in power consumption ever. Absolutely wild stuff ->

It's entertaining to observe that the only way a Labour politician can understand multiple people drawing the same conclusion and communicating that in a similar way is if there's some kind of structure ordering them to do it.

Health is a social problem, not a technical one. It will be solved socially and politically, or not at all.

The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

Today's the feast of St Hilda, 7th Century abbess and host of the Synod of Whitby, which united the Celtic and Roman Churches. Glass by AK Nicholson, 1932 at Holy Trinity, Halstead, Essex shows her with her crozier, an ammonite and a seabird at her feet.

You cant parachute asylum seekers into deprived areas, in completely inappropriate housing, then say those migrants are 'dividing our country'. You divided the country because you can't organise a basic service and process claims in a timely way

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.
