Have you ever been in a working textile factory? The noise is literally deafening and the constant motion of the machines is overwhelming and makes you sick. It would be tantamount to torture to be in that environment full time by today’s standards.

Being a craftsman who only does projects you want to when you want to is a fun hobby that few can turn into a profitable enterprise.

Working in a textile factory is not something we should aspire to have more people doing

You can romanticize the radical, sure, but you also need to recognize that those radicals aren’t really good at creating change. You’re making an aesthetic critique here and not a political one.

Here's another hot take: The fetishization of blue-collar work by people who've never been forced to do blue-collar work is essentially the same as the fetishization of cottagecore/trad aesthetic by people who've never been forced to do cottagecore/trad life work.

The problem with "you're wrong about" type podcasts is that eventually they get around to covering something you actually know quite a bit about and when they get major things wrong it bursts the illusion that the hosts know anything other than how to make a podcast.

New York's congestion pricing toll has reduced traffic and sped up commutes. Now it's also hitting its revenue goals: $48 million raised in its first month. President Trump still wants to kill it. Free link: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/24/n...

Silicon Valley looks like the suburban sprawl ringing every American city, except the crappy 70 year old tract houses all cost $2,500,000. It’s just a profound failure of governance and planning.
If you want to understand how California’s NIMBYism squandered one of the greatest economic opportunities in nearly a century, consider that over the last 15 years, Silicon Valley’s GDP nearly tripled, yet it approved less housing than Austin, Texas has in just four years.

The thing that’s so toxic about stuff like this is people “from the left” deciding to accept that Trump’s abuses in the present are just “how the system works” and then projecting that into the past to blame Obama and Biden for not doing the same but for good.
I wonder if the dems realize the level of anger some of us have reached. You mean Obama could have walked in and done an emergency order for healthcare? Could have walked into the pentagon and funneled the money to pre-k? But they have done nothing. Well they do email and beg for my money.

if your main reaction to USAID being destroyed is not one of or both of: It means the constitutional order is gone, and/or it will kill a shitload of people, you are either a stupid person or a evil person and people should stop pretending this is not the case
I'm sorry but if you buy this argument killing USAID was good because it's a front for the intelligence state you're incredibly gullible. Do you think the CIA primarily gains influence via public grants or tries to blend into the trillions of dollars US firms do w/ foreign governments every year?
