Referenced this photo during an IRL conversation last night, but couldn't find it until right now of course! It's a 1979 David Wilson photo of a SEPTA Brill trolley westbound on route 29 at Broad and Tasker! Note the Dolphin Tavern on the left, with "revue" (instead of "billiards") on the neon sign!

hello I am launching my very own podcast with @jordanjamboree.pittbert.gay where we (mostly casually!) chat about car culture in the decline of the American empire, auto racing, and industry news interspersed with tales of our former auto journo careers. we call it TRAN GIRLISMO

This is objectively untrue - especially right now, what with the really, really cruel collapse of the market for computer science majors due to AI.
maybe so, but at least you can get a job with STEM. Not so with the humanities

Philadelphia NIMBYs are the most frustrating people on earth. A massive transit oriented upzoning would literally turn PA into a blue state!!
we’ve got a ways to go until 2030 so this could change but it’s pretty much an across the board disaster if it doesn’t

building more housing isn’t just good policy, it’s existential politics

it is incredible that keyboard radicals can look at the martyrdom of people with perfectly conventional politics and imagine themselves the heroes of a struggle which they do nothing but complain about

Bravo.

This is a conversation for later, but after this disaster is over, let’s destroy the idea that rural conservatives are the lone authentic expression of American identity.

The people keeping this country from ruin are non-white urbanites, lesbian moms, bisexuals with stick & poke tattoos of frogs.
remember when an armed group of right-wing insurgents seized and occupied federal land for weeks and only one of them got shot after literally charging at an officer with his handgun drawn?

Great talking with Krissy Foster at Foster’s Meats in the West Side Market. She runs the popular stand with her husband Brian, the only spot in the Market for lamb and goat. Hard to miss the giant Texas Longhorn steer on the corner.

it is kind of fucked that snow days aren't a thing anymore and just do remote schooling instead

Some things in the world are improving.
I can drop into literally any city in North America in Google Maps (any city I’ve tried, even very car-centric ones).

And pretty quickly find decent pedestrian or cycling improvements that happened in the past 5 or 10 years.

Like this part of Columbus, Ohio that didn’t use to have sidewalks.
