I’ve often called this song—“Just Like Heaven”—the finest single of the 80s and meant it. This cover’s arrangement only confirms it for me 💜🔥

Hi. I wrote an essay about AI slop: How it feels like an invasive species for the internet. How its boosters describe building a future that’s devoid of craft. How frictionlessness can be nihilistic & how this stuff seems to leach part of our shared humanity out of the world. I hope you'll read it.

Reading for pleasure has fallen by 40 percent since 2000. This is not progress. You should read because it's good for your brain, your soul. You should read because our freedoms will not long endure in a post-literate world. Most of all, you should read because it's fun.

I find it bleak that ChatGPT now has more users than Wikipedia. Many people would rather be spoon-fed information by a machine than read and research for themselves. Tech isn't just making us dumber. Worse than that: it's killing curiosity itself and the desire to learn.

I am AI obsessed as well.

Because, like leaded gasoline it is one of the worst things the human race has ever invented.

Not every new thing is a good thing. Some ideas are bad and most of use recognize them as such nearly immediately.

If you're using AI to write essays, eulogies, a text to your wife, I do think less of you as a person. Ceding your mental and creative abilities to a machine is an embarrassing thing and people should be ashamed to admit doing it in public.

Each day, they could just discuss the details of one (1) former Republican who was arrested for sex trafficking, pedophilia, or some related scandal.

If they're going to shut down Congress for this, fill the silence with these news stories. Make it unavoidable.
I am being completely serious when I say that Democrats in Congress should be planning daily press conferences between now and September asking why Republicans are refusing to do their jobs to protect the country’s most famous pedophile who was also best friends with the leader of their party

Gonna go ahead and confirm as a baby GenX. I remember the excitement of reaching adulthood at the same time the internet became widely available. It felt magical, and a treat to check in with. Now everything I do requires it whether I want it to or not, has planned obsolescence, and costs $$$. 👎🏼👎🏼
I think one of the saddest things about being a millennial is remembering a time when technology was advancing in a way that made life better and easier and more exciting instead of actively, intentionally worse

People living under fascism didn’t survive by giving up joy—they protected it.

They held onto the things fascism tried to erase: art, friendship, jokes, rituals, language, memory.

Not as escapism but as resistance. As proof they were still human.

Joy isn’t frivolous under fascism. It’s strategic.

Run on the most left and progressive policy ever. FDR on steroids. Bernie on steroids. More AOCs and Zohrans. Do not yield a single inch to centrist scolds
If I were running for office right now, I would unapologetically run on taxing the wealthy like never before in U.S. history. Not just because it would allow us to raise the standard of living, but also as a correction of this grand scale theft from the American people.
🚨🚨 NEW: House passes sprawling domestic policy bill, sending it to Trump's desk

Final House vote is 218-214, with TWO Rs voting no (Massie & Fitzpatrick).

Senate passed it 51-50.

Reminder that this is under the guy whom Republicans were calling the "DEI mayor" when that ship hit the bridge in Baltimore however many months ago...
Baltimore ended the first half of 2022 with 179 homicides, the worst first half of a year on record (since 1970).
Baltimore just ended the first half of 2025 with 68 homicides, which is the fewest on record.
That’s a 62 percent drop from 2022-2025
