We don't have kids. We've never made $245k. I'm a drain on our finances because I don't earn an income.
And sure, a 50/30/20 budget (necessary/discretionary/savings) would be super fantastic, income hasn't kept up with inflation, and most people are a medical emergency away from draining savings.
