Hospital infection control has so much to answer for. There's this persistent myth that being an MD and being a good, caring, intelligent person are automatically the same thing, and they just absolutely are not. finally surrendering to the truth that the pain of getting the gender of French nouns wrong when chatting w/ native speakers is better for my continued learning than sticking every noun into a translation app to check the gender before using it (thereby sidestepping the pain of getting it wrong)
