So many good quotes from Babylon 5 for times like these

I'm happy for the Venezuelan people now that a corrupt leader had been toppled. But who is going to save the Americans from their own equally corrupt leadership?

Thinking of the depressing news from Switzerland. I've taken part in some fire related death investigations, and it is very sad stuff indeed. Ever since, I've kept a portable ladder and glass breaking hammer in our bedroom. Also CO and fire detectors on each level of the house.

Bluesky has definitively taken the crown for realtime news from X/Twitter, especially watching the Venezuela crisis unfold. The new Discover feed and trending topics are excellent.

Either Elon is suppressing coverage, or the algorithm is too focused on garbage, either way, well done Team 🦋!!

A chill should be running down every Canadian's spine.
Venezuelan oil is similar to Albertan/Canadian oil, perfect for the refineries on the US Gulf coast. After taking Venezuela, he can embargo Albertan oil and squeeze both Canadian manufacturing and energy exports at once, crushing the economy.

Devastating. Yesterday, a 5-year-old boy died from the flu.

Dr. Oz was spewing advice earlier this week where he downplayed the importance of vaccines and recommended “getting sunlight”.

I don’t know whether Micah was vaccinated, but of the kids who died from flu last year, 90% were not.

A ray of light in a tough time. Good luck Mayor Mamdani!

Pro-tip, if you have small kids and want to celebrate a New Years countdown before their bedtime, tune in to the one in London (on Youtube usually). For Eastern time (North America), it's at 7pm.

Had the chance to speak on CityTV about the surge in Flu cases. Probably one of the worst seasons I've seen, especially hitting the elderly and young hard.
There needs to be way better public health messaging on prevention and when to seek care.

Starting my holiday stretch of shifts, 5 in a row, keeping the hospital running with my Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and Muslim friends. We are all happy to be of service, to all those unfortunate souls who are away from their families and need our help.
Merry Christmas!

I never imagined I would ever read such a thing in the Economist. America is promoting an explicitly racist and fascist foreign policy, and trying to bend Europe to its will. We are living in incredible times. www.economist.com/internationa...

Interesting to see this.
Never thought I'd see a Saudi king speaking fluent English, talking about a high tech future.
Why did Islamic militancy mostly die off? Because a whole generation grew up like him, on YouTube, on the internet, learning English, and wanting a better life.

Flu season is here somewhat early. Be careful out there, masks in crowded indoor spaces are a good idea, and get your flu (and Covid) shots asap.

1. In the wake on Mamdani’s win, we’ll see a lot more far right anti-urban sentiment. Here’s a thread on its roots and evolution.

The idea that the city is evil and corrupt, and the countryside innocent and pure, goes back a long way: to Theocritus in Alexandria, and to the Old Testament. 🧵

Zohran Mamdani won New York because
- he ran a relentlessly positive campaign
- he fought for affordability against billionaires monopolizing all opportunity, power and influence
- he stood up against a genocide when others were too timid

It's great watching a nation self-correct in real-time!

What an awesome journey. It didn't work out in the end, and that's ok.
Most of the world is full of gloom, but this was a bright spot that brought people together in all kinds of ways.

Trump has gotten used to supplicants kneeling before him, promising impossible investments, with not-so-subtle bribes to his family's companies to smoothe things. Some nations, especially the autocrats, know this dance instinctively.
Not sure how straight-laced 🇨🇦 can compete.
"Witnesses say they saw U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra launch into an expletive-laden tirade at Ontario’s trade representative, David Paterson."

Time to strip this MAGAT fuck of his credentials and kick his fat ass out of Canada.
