A heartbreaking detail about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is that something like 20% of the crew on the Fitz was planning to retire after that journey, which was the last run of the season.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

DHS lies constantly, and this has been confirmed in court. There is no evidence that any shots were fired at federal agents. The fact that the claim has no known basis in fact should be out front here.

Department of Homeland Security agents were shot at during an immigration enforcement operation in Chicago Saturday, the agency said — as federal agents were also accused of using pepper spray and flash-bang grenades against protesters across the Chicago area.

Very true, it would probably also help if I had a good sense of how much space 26,000 tons of ore take up
As big freighters go, it was bigger than most!

They also dramatically increased safety and regulations of ships on the Great Lakes, but yes a large part is NOAA. There are 50 weather buoys on the Great Lakes now, 30 on Lake Superior alone.
In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Still processing the inanity of this cave, like, "We're going to make Republicans go on record that they want to destroy the ACA." You mean the motherfuckers who radicalized in opposition to it & voted to repeal it, like, 22 times? You're finally getting them on record? Really impressed over here

Ok I did not realize the Edmund Fitzgerald was quite so big. That storm must have been terrifying

Eight months ago, Katie Wilson declared her intention to run and all the conventional powers-that-be said she didn't stand a chance of winning.

Remember that we don't always know what is possible.
Wilson now leads in the Seattle mayoral race by 91 votes. Prior to today, Harrell had been leading by 4,300 votes, but this latest vote batch netted Wilson 4,391 votes.
