Administrations have come up with lots of flimsy rationales for why their wars don't need congressional authorization over the years, but this might be the most transparently bad faith and facially absurd.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Why wasn't congressional authorization necessary?

RUBIO: It wasn't necessary because this was not an invasion. We didn't occupy a country. This was an arrest operation.

Trump is out of control
“.. In a telephone interview this morning, .. Trump issued a not-so-veiled threat against the new Venezuelan leader, Delcy Rodríguez, saying that ‘if she doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro,’ ..”

This administration sees every action as a way to personally make money
Insider trading on war crimes seems like peak criminality.

Trump is certainly stuck in the 1980s, just look at his world view and the weird things he obsesses over.
Telling sign of dementia is when you live in your childhood when oil was the most important energy resource while the now and future are renewables

Exactly, because they know it is a losing proposition
The most amazing part is that it's being done so imaginary oil CEOs can make money, according to the delusions of our permanently 12 year old president who's stuck in 1990; actual oil CEOs aren't interested and have to be bullied into sounding excited.
Very important signal here. You can say it's abt oil. And part of it is. But the White House is actually being forced to strongarm the oil companies to get involved. www.politico.com/news/2026/01...

And there it is
A CBS News staffer told me this after Tony Dokoupil kicked off his CBS Evening News tenure tonight with a lengthy Pete Hegseth interview:

"If this is what Bari and Tony’s CBS Evening News is going to look like, then the we may as well just call ourselves Trump Administration State TV. Pathetic."

They apparently have moved her to an office without a phone.
I believe this is the latest social media post from the US Director of National Intelligence, who hasn’t otherwise been heard from today.

They are fucking liars and they are literally making it up as they go along because Trump just makes decisions on the fly with no understanding on the repercussions of those actions.
Schumer: “I was in the SCIF on 3 different occasions … I asked them: Are you pursuing regime change? Are you intent on taking military action in Venezuela?"

“And they are assured me they are not pursuing those things”

Just because the correct result happened, but was done illegally or in violation of the constitution, it does not make it right. Maduro should have been removed, but we all should be ashamed of our country today because of Trump's actions.

I am ashamed of my country today.
And there ya have it…

Officials from top Wall Street firms will be traveling to Venezuela to investigate “investment prospects” of the country. “The trip will feature about 20 officials from the finance, energy and defense sectors.”

1. That is not what was going on with Juan Hernandez, who was intimately involved in drug trafficking. 2. He literally just did this with Venezuela.
Trump on why he pardoned notorious drug trafficker Juan Hernandez: “It was a Biden set up. Take any country you want. If someone sells drugs in that country, that doesn’t mean you arrest the president and put him in jail for the rest of his life.”

It was obviously always about the oil. Trump is obsessed with fading fossil fuels like coal and oil.
Q: "You said that the U.S. is going to run Venezuela. So who is in power right now?"

Trump: "We're going to be running it with a group and we're going to make sure it's run properly. We're going to rebuild the oil infrastructure…We're going to get the oil flowing the way it should be."

This is utterly ridiculous
Q: You said the US is going to run Venezuela. So who's in power right now?

TRUMP: Well, we're gonna be running it with a group. We're gonna make sure it's run properly. We're gonna rebuild the oil infrastructure which will cost billions of dollars.

Jesus christ
Reporter: Who would run Venezuela?

Trump: It is largely going to be the people standing right behind me. We are going to be running it
January 3, 2026 at 5:28 PM
And there it is, we know this is what it was all about.
FOX & FRIENDS: What do you see as the future of Venezuela's oil industry?

TRUMP: Well I see that we're gonna be very strongly involved in it. That's all. What can I say. We have the greatest oil companies in the world.

This is going to hold the US economy back and cause us to stagnate
There's a global solar energy revolution happening led by China and it should have been one of the biggest stories of 2025.

While the US is committing to a suicide pact with fossil fuels, the rest of the world is leapfrogging into cheap nearly limitless energy.
