Exciting news! We’re thrilled to announce that tapir Yuna gave birth to a rare and endangered Malayan tapir calf Sunday night. The newborn, covered in distinctive white spots and stripes resembling a fuzzy walking watermelon, is only the second tapir born in our 120-year history.

It is like nails on a chalkboard to see/hear people say "get through the next four years," "wait til the midterms," etc. To me, it feels naively hopeful to assume that you'll get to vote in another election in two years, let alone four. Call me Debbie Downer, but I say mentally prepare yourself.

Yes to the below. I've seen a few of those large resist accounts migrate here from twitter asking for followers to get them to certain numbers. Seems to me a lot of those accounts, if they're not disinformation, just want to profit off of your anger and desire to DO something. It's not helpful.
Yet another plea to people who are using or following people off follow-farming hashtags like #NoDemUnder1K, #NoDemUnder5K, #BlueCrew, #FBR, etc etc: please do not do that, it's how disinformation operations work. I'm already seeing accounts in those hashtags that are likely disinformation ops. 1/

personally I think the breakdown of trust extends to trusting oneself. people outsourcing their ability to think or brainstorm because they don't trust their own abilities.
Can someone please tell me why, despite the climate crisis being on the brink of straight up catastrophe, so many are embracing AI, even for trivial tasks, which will only exacerbate the crisis?

I was a lurker/infrequent poster on Twitter since 2009 but had to flee. I so miss what it was before it went full bot/n@zi farm and Threads seems toxically positive. For now, I'm cautiously optimistic this place can be a safe substitute. I'm liberal with likes re:STL happenings and absurd humor ✌️
