this is a post where you (yes, YOU) can and should reply with underrated comic strips or other comic-y jokes. could be an unheralded entry from a classic strip or maybe a lesser-known strip altogether.

In this tough and moving essay, Caroline Kennedy's 35-year-old daughter Tatiana Schlossberg reveals that she is terminally ill with leukemia. She has some choice words about how her cousin Bobby has made the limited time she has left worse. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
A Battle with My Blood
When I was diagnosed with leukemia, my first thought was that this couldn’t be happening to me, to my family.

An extremely funny thing about #StarWars canon is that BOTH of Han Solo’s exes were major galactic warlords whom Palpatine himself considered threats to his dominion, whilst his martial prowess peaked at “surviving in somewhat improbable circumstances” and “flying a starship well.”

well, I read it, and the salient, non-gross part is Lizza alleging, midsentence and without elaboration, that Nuzzi ran numerous “catch-and-kill operations” on RFK’s behalf, which would give her a role in both his appointment and the untold preventable deaths he has abetted in office. Cool.

Yes, I think my exact words were “climate change and fascism/ecofascism are in a positive feedback loop.”

Credit to GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS (2019) for inspiring the discussions that led me to that cheerful thought. 🥲

Realizing that Olivia Nuzzi is just Londo’s 3rd wife Mariel. (Aka Death.)

Except without the composure. Or the genuine ruthlessness. Or the dignity.

“Mariel is drawn to men of power…but trust me, she burns them.”

you can't trust drama-grifters

no matter what political claims they make

they only want one thing

they're the olivia nuzzis of people
People in the democratic media/podcast space are just WAY too eager to rehabilitate Marjorie Taylor Green and hand it to her.

Obviously this is outrageous but I don’t see it *working* which has been the story of this administration. They are committing to strategies that are not compatible with reality.

They actually believe that there is a silent fascist majority (rather than a deafening fascist minority).
Instead of hiring more immigration judges, the Department of Justice just posted an ad for "deportation judges." join.justice.gov

My guess is that Zohran wanted Trump to like him while also not appearing like he endorses anything Trump is doing and unless I missed something mission accomplished buddy

Can confirm
Google removes a variety of longstanding GMail features if you try to withdraw your default consent (!) to having all your content read and used by Google Gemini via "Smart Features." That's an obvious attempt to coerce consent for privacy violations. Legislatures must act to make this illegal.

The Zohran press conference is your regular reminder that the entire administration folds like tissue paper at the slightest hint of confidence and conviction, and thus the fact that national democrats are playing a game of capitulation and weakness is exactly why they're all getting away with it

Everyone can have their own thoughts and feelings on Mamdani going to the White House

My thought is that part of speeding up the transition into Trump’s Lame Duck Era must be for people to publicly demonstrate *not* being afraid of him

Man won a narrow plurality of the vote, and immediately and very predictably started plummeting, and so many people and institutions who had no real need to go that far, even on the most cynical and cowardly of self-serving rationales, decided to chain themselves to the deck of a sinking ship.
we gotta keep hammering over and over again just how fucking unpopular this guy is with every institution and every person in a position of power

people hate him and people will hate you for capitulating to him
Enten: "This is probably the worst 10 day period for the president in the polls his entire second term. The numbers are just atrocious ... when your best poll has you 14 points underwater, you know it's truly bad and it's as bad as 26 points underwater ... -43 with independents! They despise him."

One of the themes of our new police state is the sheer lack of professionalism. They can't do the basics, and when challenged, double down. A dysfunctional organizational culture deeply suspicious of the society they are tasked with controlling.

They misidentified the intern. The judge told them they had misidentified the intern. But instead of double checking, they took that as an affront to their authority. So they surrounded the judge's car and threatened to smash the windows to get to the intern.

They had misidentified the intern.
The part where they threatened to break a judge’s car windows should be a bigger story … they feel comfortable treating judges this way, which means they are being told that they can do literally anything to nearly everyone

From the age of 6 I always wanted to go to my friend’s house to play Super Mario 3 on his NES. My parents resisted getting an NES or SNES though they were computer gamers. Finally my other friend gifted me his NES and my mom bought me SMB3

It’s the NES, though twas almost 10 yrs old before I got it
What's your "Origin Console"?

Most gamers have many favorite systems, but there's always one that basically DEFINES you.

I'm talking about the console that flipped the switch in your mind and turned you into a life-long gamer.

So, which one is it for YOU? 💫

This is a long-to-medium-term worry, but I think the fact that we've all just internalized that immeasurably powerful people often just throw tantrums and you shouldn't take anything they say seriously is going to be catastrophic for American civic governance going forward indefinitely.
sort of underlining how dysfunctional and unfocused the administration is, the president tweets out a deadly serious allegation of sedition and calls for hanging sitting senators and the DOJ’s official course of action is to do nothing, no one’s in charge
“Oh damn, the president ordered the murder of his political opponents” is super bad and to a large extent so is “nobody under him lifted one single finger toward that goal” because who is exercising the power of the presidency at that point?

This story is nuts.
