if you wear these stupid glasses I'm getting the fuck away from you
Facebook plans to put facial recognition in its glasses and they think we’re too stupid to fight back.

Their internal memo: “We will launch during a dynamic political environment where many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us would have their resources focused on other concerns.”
Meta Plans to Add Facial Recognition Technology to Its Smart Glasses

Biden admin did a few things that were cool! Not enough things, but a few. Terrible messaging on those things. Trump did worse than nothing but with loud and consistent messaging. People won't often fall for messaging alone, but if there isn't substance behind either candidate, it's all they have.

for the portion of Bluesky that does not know what a joke is: these are voters whose lives sucked roughly the same amount during Trump 1 and during Biden. Their problems persisted. Pols cannot "win by default" consistently, they have to both do things for people and communicate the things they did.

I think the best way to secure the votes of these people is to be really mean to them about changing their mind. Make it clear that they are awful for taking this long and how dare they ever be disillusioned with a Democrat ever again. Hasn't worked before, but maybe this time it'll work for us!

it tells users what they want to hear, and they stop wanting to hear anything else. they promise us unleashed creativity, and give us only diminished possibilities, the history of human creation fed into itself over and over. a rancid tech culture demanded a way to make more rot, that’s all

it’s a navel-gazing technology by design, and it encourages its users to shrink their worlds to the input and output boxes. it promises efficiencies and new possibilities, leading users to waste days chasing “it should be able to do this”.

the most significant change in the lives of those I’ve observed habituating themselves to LLM use is that they become worse thinkers and speakers. they cut themselves off from interesting conversations to “quickly check ChatGPT”. they regress. they become addicted. they certainly don’t “save time”
understand, I’m not scared of this stuff, and I’m not ignorant about it. I read the material, I listen to plenty of podcasts featuring people developing and using this tech every day, and I’ve engaged directly with LLM models to study them. they’re just not impressive

I *really* think this once in a lifetime opportunity to buy the Brooklyn Bridge just might be a sensible investment opportunity. I am very very smart

I *really* think people in the media broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibility of the Wallet Inspector hype being... true.

if you played sonic the hedgehog and put down the controller, sonic would look at you and tap his foot impatiently. this was proof that sega genesis cartridges had souls. the decision was made to make the storage cases a lot larger than the cartridges so they would have room to move around in there

at least long bus rides give you time to decide to do something. short bus rides just make you spend more time waiting outside than on the bus!

it's almost inspiring how much open contempt they have for the people that ride their trains

it is really quite spooky how overstimulating offices are. when you drop in the earplugs and your tinnitus feels slightly louder than normal but everything else dims and it's like a weight is slowly being lifted

we cannot simply wave off enabling and participating in fascism as "they're a survivor, you can't say that's a bad idea". attacking other marginalized people who deal with similar traumas for this take, shuts down the reflection we all need to do to reduce our complicity in the technofascist project
February 9, 2026 at 7:08 AM
I'm a trans woman, I am not unfamiliar with experiencing assault! of course it is awful, and PTSD is not a joke. Seeking trauma relief via the security-industrial apparatus is an understandable instinct, but must be resisted. we survivors owe it to each other to find other forms of trauma relief
February 9, 2026 at 7:08 AM
nah that's cop shit, feeling unsafe as justification for furthering the surveillance state is entirely the logic and playbook of fascism. that criticism does not become out of bounds just because of the particular crime the person fears! a sexual assault someone *heard of happening*, not experienced

you can literally just ignore your front door when you aren't expecting anyone! Even when someone rings your manual doorbell. We do not need to have 24/7 access to the front of our house, this information does not help us live our lives

Every Super Bowl ad was just “HEY REMEMBER THIS SHIT? HUH? YOU REMEMBER THE POP CULTURE YOU CONSUMED THAT ONE TIME IN YOUR LIFE WHEN NOT ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING FUCKING SUCKED. REMEMBER THAT?? brought to you by a company causing your electric bill to increase 287%”
February 9, 2026 at 4:26 AM
I think it's important that we really think about how these security devices would actually help us here. how would a ring camera prevent sexual assault? what would it do that a peephole, or a window, wouldn't do? can't we just go back to ignoring our front doors when we aren't expecting anyone?
