This is that this is basically the end of higher ed. The ROI for education in academia is extremely low as is, but at least you had tenure to look forward to and working on what’s interesting. Take the first and prosecute the second and there’s no incentive.
This has slowly been happening at all but flagship public universities. This would accelerate the practice, and I expect more states (including some blue states) to follow suit in the coming years.
Breaking, from me: An executive order from Oklahoma's governor directs most of the state's public colleges to "phase out tenure." #AcademicSky #HigherEd @chronicle.com

I don't think of myself as an overly proud man, nor one with an unrealistically idyllic sense of importance the "Nobel Peace Prize."

And yet, if requested or required to abet Donald Trump's embarrassing campaign to obtain one, I would prefer to shoot myself in the head. Funny, that.
News from Poland. Apparently the Americans have started circulating form letters nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize - all the nation in question has to do is sign it. The Speaker of the Sejm told them to fuck off and the US Ambassador has had a meltdown.

Lemme something about the male brain.

I hope this doesn't come out wrong, but even before I transitioned (so, pre- higher testosterone) I had the thing men talk about as being universal for us where I'd generally be up for sex with any woman I liked enough to be friends with (and some I didn't).

I understand folks are scared but I want you to think about the mechanics of this.

There are more polling places (>100k) than ICE and CBP agents combined, so they can only pick a few districts to try to intimidate.

Now what happens when cell phone footage of that goes online in the early morning?

Schumer has graduated to world-historical levels of political malpractice. Van Papen, Quisling, Stephen A. Douglas-level incompetence that in retrospect becomes indistinguishable from evil.

Not content to put universities, high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools under siege with the threat of indiscriminate machine-gunning, the Republican Party and its auxiliaries is psyching itself up to destroy daycares and their toddler inhabitants.

Hope they don’t get to my child’s!…
a Republican witness in the GOP's "Somali Scammers" hearing details how he drives by childcare centers and looks at how many footprints in the snow there are to determine how many kids are there. Psycho stuff.

they're trying to be coy about salivating over the prospect of raping women, they'll contest that but if pushed to explain, that's exactly what they would describe. forced pregnancy of any kind, by a man or by the state, is gender-based violence

Kiddies who made it out of the ICE dungeon report sighting a schoolmate. Before this, the school district had no information on their whereabouts. The family has now been connected with a lawyer.

Youngsters who escape a govt dungeon are the only way to track abducted children? This is fine!
The two children who returned to MN today say they saw one of their Valley View schoolmates at a detention center in TX. This is a child whose family was last in contact with the school on January 9. No one has known where they were until now.

They are pretty similar!

Plus for Crockett: working to add SCOTUS justices (Talarico punts)

Both punt on criticizing Schumer

Plus for Talarico: more clearly opposes the current filibuster without equivocation

BIG YIKES for Talarico: loves the Iron Dome

I want to elect both (for their views) and neither (for how their conduct is already annoying me)
the texas democratic senate primary is deeply mind numbing because Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico believe basically the same things at their core but they're both rorshach tests for whatever you already believe about Texans and their voting preferences

this unprecedented momentum behind a single issue sure might be a useful fulcrum to try and wrench this country back from over the brink
74% of Democrats support abolishing ICE, with 53% *strongly* supporting it, according to YouGov polling from last month.

Weak calls for "reform" are coming from *elected* Democrats like Chuck, not the average Democratic voter.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.
