This is an important part of this dynamic as well. Specifically the part about trying to convince people to overestimate the cost, thus paralyzing them in to inaction.
The fun part is that she's not actually thinking in tradeoffs at all she's just encouraging people who would otherwise support fairly liberal causes to overestimate the direct cost to them, because she's an explicitly Republican political operative masquerading as someone marginally centrist.

Humanities programs have ceded scholarship of the premodern to bad actors on the right. This is a serious problem, not only because it represents a loss of current and future knowledge, but also because it enables white supremacists and Christian nationalists to twist history to their own ends.
Three, it is a big problem for the humanities that the only programs that appear to be robustly hiring medievalists and classicists are places like the Hamilton Center and its sister programs that are sprouting up at campuses across the country.

Notice how Trump is never assigned blamed for this tradeoff. Slapping his name on the Kennedy Center was always going to have this result. It's his fault, not the boycotters.

I am annoyed by the persistence of 'resist libs are tired of resisting Trump' line.
No Kings put record-breaking numbers of people into the streets, specials/off-years are at D+10 or more.
I don't think the resist libs are tired. I think some writers are tired of writing about resist libs.

This is not hard. Artists are not responsible for ensuring the Kennedy Center remains relevant and successful. The center’s board is responsible for that, in a fiduciary way. All of this energy being directed at artists should be re-directed at the board.

People forcing themselves to think like a political strategist is antithetical to being human.
My question to them would be the same as my question to the "wellness" people.

when I was starting out, (pre-internet) I asked another artist a question about buying the chemicals to make a blue line (again, very long time ago) & they said they weren't going to tell me because I was competition & that's when I decided I'd never be a dick like that to another artist
Cartoonists getting mad over the 'what brush do you use?' question baffles me (and I have absolutely seen them in uproar over it, ye gods 🙄). Someone wants to know about your tools! don't you like talking about the tools you use to make comics? I know I do! Ask me about my brush!!!
A surefire way to make comics readership shrink away is to make casual readers feel stupid & embarrassed for making basic comments or asking basic questions. That’s why I cringe when artists get loudly defensive about stuff like “this reminds me of Steven Universe!” or even “what brushes do you use”
